A MUST BUY!!!
We got the King of Tokyo expansion pack along with the King of Tokyo base game from the recommendation from a client who knows that my wife and I love board/card games. My client recommend that we get both at the same time because the expansion pack makes the game THAT much better. He was right! So, my wife and I played a few games (just the base game) and my wife, with her lucky rolls, beat me three times in a row, and 5 out of 7 total. There were a lot of emotional outbursts on my end because I just could not get the dice to attack my wife's monster (I kept rolling heart symbols with the dice... maybe because I lover her so much). These games were really quick, like 15 minutes long.Although we both love the base game, we didn't feel as if it was complete and so we opened up the expansion pack. We liked it much more immediately! Well, I did for sure because although I still kept rolling hearts, that allowed me to get a bunch of evolution cards (you get one if you roll 3 hearts). The expansion pack adds a twist with a variety of different "evolutions" that your monster goes through. For example, when I played the power up expansion card for my Kraken, his life capacity went up from 10 to 12 points. There was a card similar to this "evolution" card in the base game, but it is so much easier to get the 'evolution" cards in general, so that there were more factors in play on every turn. There are also evolution cards that make your opponent(s), lose victory points so the games last longer as well and you have a chance to make a comeback when you are far behind. Subsequently, the games lasted longer, possibly 10 minutes longer for a two person game. Also, I like the surprise element that the evolution cards bring. Like this scenario: Your opponent rolls a bunch of paws that symbolizes attacks to your monster's health. Just when your opponent thought that he/she caused serious damage to your monster, you pull out an evolution card that dismisses all the damages that would have been otherwise sustained on that turn. Or when you're ready to for your opponents turn to be over only to be slightly and briefly disheartened when he/she pulls out a card that lets him/her take an extra turn ....immediately.... :(The best aspect of playing with the expansion pack is that you use more strategy than relying on the luck of the dice rolls. Of course, there is a lot of luck still involved, but I felt that our games with the expansion packs made us use a lot more brain power to make strategic decisions. Just FYI, I beat my wife 2 out of 3 games when playing with the expansion pack :). ...maybe that's why I like it better....We definitely recommend the base game with the expansion pack for the casual to the avid gamer :)

King of Tokyo: Power Up! Expansion Review by Dad's Gaming Addiction
King of Tokyo: Power Up! – 2-6 Players, Ages 8+, Average Play Time = 30 MinutesI honestly think that this expansion is a great idea. It adds a bit of variety to the core game, giving players a reason to care about the monsters they’ve selected. In the core game, each monster was considered equal…they started with the same health, had the same attack power, and etc. Here, players can develop one or two favorites that they prefer to use with each passing game. The draft variant will also allow groups who game regularly to come up with their own prefered monster/evolution card combos. These evolution cards also add an extra strategic element, as players may give up energy dice (to acquire regular cards) so that they can attempt to gain an evolution card. All in all, “King of Tokyo: Power Up!” is a worthy addition to the series, but is a bit overpriced at fifteen to twenty bucks (as of 1/9/14). The core game can be bought for double that price and features five to ten times the number of components. Still, the “Power Up!” expansion is worth getting if you love playing “King of Tokyo” and do so on a regular basis.

this expansion would be hard not to recommend. It adds new complexity and a needed level ...
Places a significant, new emphasis on rolling hearts. This adds more complexity to the strategic level of the game; is it worth trying for those three hearts to acquire the new evolution? The evolution cards are this expansion's primary boon - each monster is provided a unique deck of eight evolution cards. This deck is then shuffled and placed face down. Players can draw one card from their deck at the cost of three hearts, in addition to using these hearts for whatever else they might have otherwise used these hearts for (healing, damage counter removal). The cards are labeled as being either temporary (active) or keep (passive) evolutions (abilities); when drawn, they remain hidden from other players until the player is ready to make use of them. These evolutions include unique benefits that are imagined to relate to the given monster. For example, The King's deck focuses on claiming and maintaining control of Tokyo, while Cyber Bunny's deck focuses on the acquisition and saving of energy. In addition to all of this, the expansion also comes with the new Pandakai monster, complete with its own evolution deck.Overall, this expansion would be hard not to recommend. It adds new complexity and a needed level of personality to the base game of King of Tokyo and the monsters within.

Box includes four color process printed cardboard pieces that look like a panda, tokens, and some squarish power-up cards.
King of Tokyo hits a nice sweet spot of skill, luck, lightheartedness and enough thematic carnage to span the gap between newbie gamers and die-hards alike. Because honestly, what brings people (huddled) closer together than giant lizards, pink alien robots and bamboo-staff-wielding giant (I mean really giant!) pandas smashing into each other and toppling over buildings in a roar of crashing thunder? If you're looking at this expansion here's a few tips - don't buy this if you (or anyone you know) doesn't already have the original game - you're not going to have any fun if you're missing 90% of the game, dummy.Secondly, this expansion enhances the original game, giving each creature their own bonus abilities outside of the power cards you could buy while playing the original game. It's a neat mechanic if you're into mechanics, I guess.Lastly, buying this expansion lets you add one more player to the mix, which, if you've already got a ton of people to fill out the original, you should probably already own this by now.what are you waiting for? flop out that Costanza wallet already and buy this Power Up! pack already, jeeezz...

Adds fun and depth
This expansion means each player will have distinct powerups to "evolve" to, which adds welcome depth and variety to an already fun game. You would have to play a lot to feel you'd exhausted the different permutations. As you'd expect, some of the evolution powers are significantly better and more interesting than others, although you can mitigate this effect by playing the variants (see below). The price was £12.99 when I bought mine, the current price is a tad high for what you get in my opinion. There are three variants for the new evolution rules included, but they are fairly obvious (start with a free evolution; take two evolution cards and pick one when you evolve; draft the evolution cards for advanced players)

New tokens, new abilities and a Giant Panda!
First expansion for King of Tokyo, gives you a new monster, Pandakai, tokens for new effects and Mutation/Evolution cards. The cards are special abilities for each specific monster, making them unique to play as, thus expanding your game play experience.I feel that initially this isn't essential but is a must if you want to expand your gaming experience with King of Tokyo, plus it has a Giant Panda!

Easy to add expansion.
This is a good expansion that makes sense within the game. Easy to add and teach. Essentially each player gets its own unique 8 card deck of evolution powers that work much the same as the regular powers but are activated by rolling three hearts. Powers are temporary or permanent and add another layer to the game meaning that you have to watch other players powers carefully, and also combats games where the usual powers don't come into play that much.

Entertaining expansion to superb game
King of Tokyo is a superbly entertaining game in it's own right... I mean how could a game that asks 'who can be the best giant monster at bashing foes and stomping a global capital' not be awesome? This first expansion adds some clever monster specific traits and bonuses to the game, though some can be a little unbalanced. Overall it's a fun addition to shake up the system, but the basic game is more than capable and simpler.

A small, subtle but really positive change
It is a little bit expensive for what it is, but I think it makes some important changes to the game that means that one really good turn can't win you the game in quite the same way.(Previously one good round of damage in Tokyo and the writing was on the wall now in trying to survive you can still progress, so it stays fun - a big change to my one problem with the original game)
