Install as shelf below fireplace looks great
I did not have enough room above my electric fireplace to place a mantel, due to the placement of my TV. Therefore, I ordered a larger mantel to hang as a shelf below my fireplace. I used decorative brackets, which were 2 inches wider than the shelf, to attach the shelf to the wall. I purposely left a small space behind the wood to give a "floating" appearance. It looks great!

Too much money for the product
I realized this is made from a very old piece of wood. My shelf has several large knots and cracks in it. It did not include mounting brackets. I had to order them from another company. I am afraid when I drill the bracket holes it will break due to the cracks in it. I thought for the high price, it would have been a better piece of wood.

Cooperative Seller and nice rustic look
Seller was very nice to cut my mantle to my specified length and it was absolutely perfect in size! The color was perfect too as I asked for some thing not too dark. See how well it matches the corbels that I already had. Therefore, I did not use the mounting system. I have 2 complaints: The bottom of my mantle was not level and it wobbled on the corbels. One side was flat and fit on the corbel and the other side was slightly slanted therefore I had to use the orange cloth to cover that gap. The other complaint is all the holes in the front of the mantle. I know it’s supposed to be rustic so the holes didn’t overly bother me but when you could see rods or nails or something in those holes, that looked unsightly to me. I took a picture of one of the holes with the nail head exposed so you could see what I mean. Again, I covered it with the orange cloth. The overall finished look is perfect for my Santa Fe condo!

Good solid product but difficult to install
The wood used in this product is of solid quality and is super heavy. It's no doubt a good looking mantle and can withstand the test of time. Mounting this is another story altogether. The mount sent with this product is woefully inadequate. The instructions are 1 page and insufficient. The hole being asked to drill is bigger than the mount and there were only two of the mounts sent for a 7 plus foot mantle. I was lucky to have found two studs but when I slid the mantle into the mount, it immediately sagged. I had to get a custom bracket made with wrought iron. I then had to chisel the wood in the rear to accommodate the depth of the brackets. Needless to say it was not easy. Even after all that work, the wood chipped in the area where the bracket was resting.

Confusion on products.
