All of your favourite tunes, like you've not quite heard them before
A fantastic mix of some awesome "tunes of old". There are so many classics crammed into these two discs that if you went to university in the early 90s you'll be singing along, waving your hands in the air and blowing your whistle like the good old days. The mixing is exceptional, seamless and makes really good use of each tune to improve or add to those it's being mixed with. Heartily recommended.

Cutting Old Skool To Shreads!
The Cut Up Boys are now becoming regulars on the MOS CD scene, their mix of accapellas with different instrumentals is pretty cool, and they usually know what to put with what. This time, their mission is to mash up the old skool tracks that we all loved when we were younger.CD1 kicks off quite nicely, but I was a bit concerned about the accapella, supposed to be Bobby Brown with Two Can Play That Game, but the singer doesn't sound like him at all! The mix moves on pretty swiftly, and doesn't really have the flair that the other Cut Up Boys CDs usually have - not many effects and tricks, it's mainly straight up instrumentals with accapellas. I felt it was a bit disappointing skills wise, but the music is typical of what the Ministry put out of Back To The Old Skool CDs; and really is quite commercially well known. Some highlights include Jinny's Keep Warm with Robin S' Show Me Love; MARS' fusion with Rozalla's Everybody's Free and Liquid's Sweet Harmony mashed in with Love Sensation. It's quite a skilful mix but for me it really is not as good as their Mash Up Mix 2008 .CD 2 is more of the same really; the first part is more trance than anything else - Jam & Spoon's Stella is quite craftily sewn into Joey Beltram's Energy Flash. Other really good moments include Snap's Rhythm is a Dancer sharply followed by Far Out, which is a classic rave track. I also enjoyed the way they mixed Basement Jaxx with that track, some good use of filtering. For me this CD is better than the first disk, it's more experimental and shows more skill than the first one. I also enjoyed the mix with Johnny L and Snap, it's funny what you can find mixes with other tracks.Altogether this isn't a bad CD, but it's not the best The Cut Up Boys can do; as I've said before, The Mash Up Mix 2008 is much better than this, mainly because I think I'm getting tired of hearing these old skool tracks as they're on more now than they used to be in the day. Plus the Ministry have done too many old skool CDs - and mashing the tracks up won't help me want to hear them more.Unless you're new to the genre, or just a massive fan of Old Skool, I'd probably suggest giving this a miss - still, not bad music matching wise, shame it's all Pro Tools mixing rather than good old 4 deck mixes you used to get from Slipmat, Sy, Stu Allen and many more.
