Gets the job done
I bought this to use for my Lenovo Yoga laptop to hook up with monitor. Opted to go with reputable brand like Belkin to make sure the ports to my computer don’t get ruined and the connection is stable. Worked straight out of the box. It looks nice, glossy black. I wish it felt a bit sturdier as the casing feels like cheap plastic.

Defective
Unfortunately did not work out for me. Kept on disconnecting with every little movement and I bought it to use with my car to connect my phone. My kids were super frustrated because it would disconnect every 30 seconds. I had to hold the adapter a certain way in order for it to remain connected so that kids can watch their tv in the car. After so much struggle, I got another brand’s adapter and it worked right away. I have used Belkin’s chargers before and loved them but this adapter came defective for me.

does not heat up on Mac
this is the product you can find on Apple's website. I needed to plug in HDMI for monitor. prior products overheated that side of keyboard. this does not heat up hardly at all. its a keeper.

Great little gadget!
I have dual monitors I got for my work from home setup, and after doing this for too long, I realized I could also use these things for my personal Mac and make my personal life easier. After learning about Macs and extended displays, in order to have more than one extended display on my Air, you needed to have each monitor plugged into each of the two Thunderbolt ports; you can't use a single dock with both monitors with a single Thunderbolt port. So let's review - that's two monitors to two holes in the Air, for a total of two holes out of two holes used. So... how does my laptop eat? Wouldn't she get hungry? Well this little guy swings in to rescue her so she won't starve to death! Now I have one Thunderbolt using the dock with one monitor and all the peripherals, and this one with the other monitor and her charger. Problem solved!

Try plugging in the power, THEN the video.
To make this dongle do both power and video for my phone (Razer Phone 1), I have to plug in the power first, THEN plug in the video.- If I plug the dongle into my phone with both cables already connected, neither video nor charging work.- If I plug either video alone or power alone, the single feature works.- If I plug in video first and THEN power, the video cuts off after I plug in the power, and then neither video nor charging work.- If I plug in power first and THEN video, both work. But the HDMI connector is a big, tight, chonky thing, so it really sucks having to plug/unplug it while the other two delicate USB-C connectors are sticking out. It'd be massively nicer if I could just leave both the power and video cables always connected to the dongle, and just plug/unplug the dongle from my phone. (Maybe that's how it works with newer phones?)It probably depends on the device. With my Chrometablet, I can plug the dongle in with both cables connected and the video will work, but the charging never works, not even when plugged in alone. (The OS pops up a warning about unreliable charging, and the battery still goes down as I use it.)
