Transmaterial Next: A Catalog of Materials that Redefine Our Future Paperback – May 2, 2017

This was disappointing to say the least. It might serve as a good resource for someone with an interior design store, but as a scientist, designer, and all around biomaterial nerd, I was hoping for an in depth collection of innovative materials and the products made from them. The book starts out interesting enough, with lots of biobased materials, but about half the book is made up of things that are clearly not materials. I understand the word 'material' can be very broadly interpreted, but I don't know anyone who would consider an interactive kinetic light sculpture as any kind of a material, but yet there are multiple inclusions of these. This book should really be called "Some cool materials, but also a bunch of furniture and art loosely related to material innovation that mostly just look spiffy." It looks more like someone just copy and pasted a bunch of Dezeen and Wired magazine articles into a book and added contact information for the manufacturer. It is very much a catalog, NOT a book, and so contains as little information as a catalog would. Uninformative and seems hastily thrown together. I am returning this. I was very disappointed.
