A love story that presses all the right buttons. Eventually.
After reading a few books that were rather taxing, I decided to choose my next read from the contemporary romance genre. I hoped it would be easy to read and ultimately satisfying. And I was not disappointed. But I have to admit, I very nearly gave up on the book. The first chapter was reminiscent of Pretty Woman and Sex and the City, and upon finishing the chapter I had a moment of self-doubt. Could I really continue to read something so light-hearted and enjoy it after taking a break from the genre for such a long time? But not being one to give up so easily, I continued to read.In chapter 4 the story takes an unbelievable turn, and felt quite out of place in this kind of book. Suspension of disbelief was most definitely required. Again, I nearly gave up. The book now seemed quite silly, and I didn't know what to expect. I was a little thrown off course. However, I persevered, hopeful the story would lead me away from the shallows and into the depths of something more heart-warming, with the expected twists and turns along the way. I had to wait until chapter 10 to get my wish. This proved to be the turning point in the book, and from then on I was pulled in.This book explores the what if? of love. Something many of us may have thought about but never dared to act upon. And what lengths would a father go to to make amends with his daughter?A love story that presses all the right buttons. Eventually.

There's suspending your disbelief then there's this. It's odd. I struggled with the futuristic element which was a real shame as I really liked Julia. Levy is clearly not a sci-fi author and the characters blissful acceptance of the oddness was annoyingly unrealistic. A supernatural angle would have suited the story more than a technological one. It felt ridiculous. However, ignoring the ridiculous, this was a modern romance. A sweet reflection of a daughter moving on from her father being the number one man in her life. It's a very, very sweet reflection which is only emphasised by the futuristic element. Sometimes a sweet romance is what you want, easy escapism, but this was very much my limit. I was invested in Julia and I was reading the end as quickly as I could to find out what happened. Not because it was a surprise but because I wanted to find out how it would happen. I wish there was more of Stanley in the story and his connection with Julia. There's a novel in that relationship alone.I guess I just prefer my futuristic/sci-fi books and my sickly sweet romance books to be kept separate.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger
An interesting way of telling both sides of the story- had to make sure you read the timings at the beginning of each chapter otherwise you could get confused

The characters were true to life and the plot gripping
An interesting book which made good holiday reading. It was an improbable scenario- futuristic sci-fi- but had insights into parent-child relationships and a style that gripped the reader.

Take off Isn't smooth but once plot lifts off it enjoy the ride
Either Marc Levy does n't like foreplay or its his translator fashions his beginning chapters into a bad chick lit. However, stay with this book because once we're introduced to the idea of being able to spent time with your recently departed father, the writing improves. Gradually we discover the conflict which parted father and daughter and question how long can we love someone for?

Am curious as to how true this is to the french novel?
It was a clever concept and pulled on my heartstrings a few times but the conclusion wasn't as deep in explanation as I wanted and has left me feeling rather unfulfilled. I enjoy other M. Levy books though.

Fantastic storyline
Absolutely loved this book but then I enjoy Marc Levy's writing. As I live in Berlin I was able to picture the travels of the characters very clearly. The end left me gasping and I have recommended the book to a lot of people
