FreedomPop Novatel MiFi 500 (4G LTE & 3G) - Black

I have been using this MiFi 500 with Freedompop for nearly a year, and every month I get 500+ MB of data for FREE (I'm connected to "friends" who will get me another 500 MB/month). Coverage in my rural western state is so-so, but I do get SPARK LTE in some of the smaller towns with population of 15,000-20,000 people so it's not too bad! There are a lot of complaints about how Freedompop makes the little charges hard to turn off, but it's pretty straightforward if you read the small print.Just be sure to turn OFF 1) data rollover, 2) the 'premium' pricing/plans, and 3) "automatic account top-up" options. I have not paid a penny for the last 9+ months of service.The one thing you should be aware of is that Freedompop support is...terrible. Social media (Twitter/Facebook/etc.) or their online forums are the best way to get support, since you will wait 40+ minutes on the phone to speak to someone. I'm not sure that their forums give the best support, either...but once you're up and running hopefully you will not need the support. I haven't needed to call about my MiFi for the time I have had it. Migrating a device I didn't buy to Freedompop....a different story entirely.

I have been through 2 of these now. The first one worked great at first and I was really pleased with it's great signal. Even when driving around the signal would stay strong, then after 1 week of use it started doing the restart thing over and over again so I returned it and ordered a new one, this time (not used) and it wouldn't even connect to 4G lte. I called the company up about it and they agreed it was defective so I returned it as well. I really wanted this device to work but it seems it has quite a few defects that need worked on before it will work right. It's a gamble whether you'll get one that works or not, and everyone knows you're more likely to lose than win with gambling.

I haven't used this yet and don't know if I ever will. When I tried to activate it I found that I was going to be charged for advance usage when I only wanted the promo. I called support and was told to call back tomorrow and cancel to remove the extra charges, seems to me they're gonna get you one way or another. I think it might just be better to tether to my iPhone as I have more data usage available there.

I have used it for a few days, it is much better than the older photon I had (and lost). It is big enough that it will be harder to lose and LTE is much faster with it than 4G was with the photon
