Excellent primer for players of FIDE 1400 to 2200 rating.
An excellent book for a beginner which covers the essential aspects of how to plan, study and improve your game. It exposes you to important topics like end game, middle game, basic tactics which are sufficient for a beginner to start playing confidently. It does not exhaust you with endless variations but instills the importance of calculating variations over the board. Some games from year 2015 are also discussed. They point you to studies which will improve calculation, ability to defend inferior positions etc. We have to spend time on these studies regularly to improve our skill. I think this is one of the best books for a beginner as explanations are simple and easy to understand. This book is geared towards players around 1400 to 2200 FIDE rating. It takes time to develop the skills taught in this book and it needs repeated reading. A very good addition to a chess player's library. Not for experts.
Most of the material in the book will be known by a FIDE ELO 1200 TO 1400 player. It also gives a few rules however there are no universally applicabi rules. This point with comments on the authors work without naming names has been made in Applying Logic in chess.
