KOOTANS Mower Spindle Assembly for Cub Cadet MTD 918-04474 918-04474A 918-04474B 618-04474 618-04474A 618-04495 918-04495, for 285-889, 80-11-779, CP 30-8012, with Bolts & Grease Zerk

Worked fine on my 2008 Bolen Lawn tractor. That's my first time putting one on and I was able to do it with really no problems. All bolt holes lined up and I just put my old bolts back in. Used it several times and everything seems to be in working order.

The bolt holes lined up perfectly but the spindle itself was approximately ¼ inch taller than the originals on my Lowes license-built Bolens. Consequently the blade brake brake pad did not come close to fitting into the pulley. So I removed the blade brake. C'est la vie.It was a used mower so I had not heard it when new and so I didn't know that the super-loud noise when the blade clutch pulley pulled the belt tight was that the bearings in one of the original spindles was trashed. All I hear now is the engine; there is no roar when the blades are engaged.

After ten years of owning this MTD Yard Machines 638 RL tractor the time has come to replace the worn mower deck spindles. I was getting a bit of noise from the original spindles and it would take a second or so for the blades to start spinning. After checking the deck out I realized the bearings were bad in one of the stock spindles. So I am one who replaces both beings the amount of hours used. This new spindle came preassembled with pulley and grease fitting. The pulley was identical to the MTD part. Everything bolted on the deck just like the stock part did. I also put a new belt on while I was there. Now this tractor is back to it's old glory! Highly recommend this spindle!!

seems to be well made but the pulleys were slightly smaller than the original ones. was going to purchase a shorter belt but the old pulleys were in good shape so i just swapped them out. mows like a champ now

Not much to say other than this spindle fixed my mower. I knew something was wrong when the mower was clattering more than usual and the blade wobbled. I've never replaced a spindle before, and the hardest part was figuring out where the belts went after I took the deck off. I might have been able to replace the spindle without taking off the deck if I could have figured out how it hooked on. Unlike the original spindles, this Kootans spindle has a grease zert. This goes on a 38" Bolens riding mower.

These work well. Surprised that they have a grease fitting which makes sense but the originals did not. I imagine the grease fittings will be a good thing.

The mower guy wanted $64 for a replacement spindle. I'm like, "That's installed, right?" "Nope" "See ya" This is a pretty simple device. Sealed bearings. Quiet. Cheap. Took me about 20 minutes to put on. It was a perfect fit for my Cub Cadet-I measured it pretty carefully before installation. I would buy this again if (when) needed.

The old one has been well used and really needed this new part...what a difference this spindle made. And the speed of getting it was great!
