Very nice and flexible use
I've had the Avermedia capture card for a bit now and I have to say I like it. One of the biggest things about the capture card is its flexible it gives the option to record without a PC that's a good key feature many people as I don't want to have a bunch of cables in the way and make everything look messy. Another thing about the card is all I need to do is press the hot button on top of the card to start recording and I'm ready. It's still possible to connect a PC to the capture card I recommend using OBS to record as an alternative to Avermedia's since it's less complicated. For the last couple of things you can add a micro SD to the capture card to save all the video footage as long as it's compatible going to the website support will give you a couple of options that will work with it. And lastly, this is the weird part of the card ,it's recording your commentary and group chat it's weird the person would have to plug in the wire from the headset into the card and use the 3.5mm pole cable and connect that from the controller into the card as well. It doesn't really make sense to me. If you do just plug in your headset into the controller and start using the capture card it'll record the video itself but not the audio. Why can't it just take the audio source from the system and have it recorded ? That's the only downside I was thinking while getting used to the card aside from that it can also be used as mass storage so you can move your videos directly into the computer. But that is it only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the weird connections for chat it's a solid capture card.

Xbox one does have hdcp!
Avermedia has always been my go to for capture cards specifically for the pc free mode. In fact that's the only use that matters from these cards. They're super easy to use and now with the added ability to transfer footage straight from the card to another device through usb makes it way better. I even gave the re central a try and had zero lag with it. But I recommend getting this only for the pc free mode. Also quick disclaimer because I saw someone else had this problem but if you use the pc free mode but the light only stays on red then it's because of the copyright protection on your console. It says only ps4 has it but Xbox one actually has that too. It's just automatic on Xbox and doesn't shut off unless you restart your console. So just restart your xbox if it's giving you that problem and it'll then start on a blue light showing the pc free mode is ready to record.

DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL!!
This is going to be brief. The first model of the Live Gamer Portable worked like a champ and I am now returning to use it over the Live Gamer Portable 2 model. The main reason, if you record longer than what the MicroSD card can hold on the LGP2, it will brick your card. I have now lost a 64GB and 128GB MicroSD card. No type of formatting, Windows or Mac, was able to make the cards usable again. This is a huge fault in the LGP2 and hopefully AverMedia will do something about it. Never had this problem with the previous generation LGP, which is why I am going back to using it.

Good quality, easy to use
Just received AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable 2 $209.Works very good at [pc-free mode], You can choose 3 different quality with ①20000kbps 24min about 4GB, ②15000kbps ③10000kbps all at .MOV file. You can use Format Factory Convert to mp4 format or anything you want.About the [Stream] I have a little problem with RECentral 3 on Win10, can't find device on v3.0.0.38 version, works on v3.0.0.33 but it says other programs in use can't started stream, but it can be set, such as change the PC-FREE mode quality. So, I change to potplayer and bandicam which can find the device and have image on my screen.Stream with USB2.0 have two mode to choose, ①about 0.1 seconds delay, but the screen a little bit worse. ②About 0.5 seconds delay, but the screen is almost the same as ps4 HDMIIn any case, the quality of video recording is really good, youtube detected ps4 video is 1080p60 frame.SD card needs high-speed write, I bought SanDisk Extreme 128GB microSDXC UHS-I 60mb/s write Card.

If live recording, use a more powerful USB power adapter than what they include. Shows red light on unit. Terrible time waste.
Points for being pretty much hands-off for live recording to Micro SD. Points off for including very weak power adapters that don't let you do this. Symptom: HDMI output to projector is fine, but light stays red. Won't record. You think it's something with the content so you connect the recorder's USB to the computer and tweak settings. It works when powered from your computer. Huh. Then you decide to put it back into the loop with USB power from the included adapter. Doesn't work again. Took us hours to figure out that the power supplied from the unit in the box wouldn't drive it. Would be great if they included a log file somewhere that you can read to figure out what went wrong.

Look No Further!
If you are tiring to decided between the Elgato and AverMedia question no further. The AverMedia LGP2 is a wonderful product from the packaging to the hardware. After spending days trying to get the Elgato to work for our for our newly upgraded dual pc stream setup we ordered the LGP2. When it arrived we plugged it in and were able to start streaming within the hour. The quality of the recording and the stream is now our best quality yet thanks to this product!

very basic
I bought this because i was having audio issues with a different brand so i thought this would be a good alternative and get the job done that i needed. It lacked the quality in recording and yes my pc is able to handle this and for example the more demanding elgato HD pro 60 internal card, when i played around with the quality i still could not get it to look like it was advertised, the plug and play is a great feature if you travel conventions or something of that nature. The software was easy to use but was lacking in my opinion. From other reviews of this brand i would say go with the newer internal capture cards if you have a pc and not a laptop. if you want external i have had good luck with elgato and i now use the internal one from them. good luck to all in future purchases

Fantastic and simple
Fantastic and simple. No capture card, no PC, it just sits between your console and your TV like a digital recorder and records 1080p 60fps with really good quality. Video footage can be lifted to your PC without removing the memory card: just connect the LGP2 to your PC and push the switch all the way to the right, your pc will access it directly. This is the third AVermedia game recorder I have owned and I've been happy with all of them.Note: you will need an additional item if you want to record gameplay from your PC the same way.

Works perfectly both on SD card and with Linux, with no messing around
Unlike other capture cards, this one is recognised by Linux straight away allowing you to use OBS to record / stream without installing proprietary drivers, software etc. Easy to set up both on PC and using an SD card. Brilliant little product which I heartily recommend. In response to another comment on here, I definitely received the genuine product. Shipping time was minimal considering it came from overseas. I am very happy with this purchase.

Very easy to use.
This is a great product does everything that it claims to do. Very easy to use. The fact that its highest definition is 1080p is more than adequate for anything I need to record. Was delivered on time and worked straight out of the box. Would thoroughly recommend the item.

Great device
Small and compact capture card. I brought this to capture PSVR recording (pc free) took a while to figure how to set up. Didn't work at first, had to YouTube how to download firmware. After that, worked great. You do lose colour on PC free mode. Also, shame it had no HDR pass through. Didn't want to pay extra for 4k pass though. Just shame no HDR Support. Need to play around with sound. Video seemed very quiet on playback. Hdmi cable was very small. Overall, nice little machine. Wish it was cheaper.

USB Malfunction Nightmares
Occasionally connects to the computer, when it does it seems to work nicely. Most of the time though we get a "USB Device Malfunctioned" - deleting files uninstalling USB drivers sometimes helps. This is for kids to use so it must work every time. No help from Avermedia in trying to get it resolved so it is being returned.
