Learning Curve for Beginners
Others have reviewed this land/aircraft in great detail, so I will focus on the user experience. I bought this for my 8-year old nephew who resides in the UK; it was the only toy I could think of that might add some novelty to his life. He's a bit cantankerous and mischievous, so I knew right away that any toy I got for him would have to be virtually indestructible. Or its pieces would be littered all over the kitchen or the living room. This quadcopter fit the bill. It is literally both a car of sorts that can move laterally over ground and take to air - but not the skies - effortlessly. It is of a relatively diminutive size, though it was of a large enough size that I feared the MI5 or MI6 could spring out of the lush green forest surrounding the park that served as our primary testing ground. For it could well be considered a drone. The Aircraft: This Syma X9 is very lightweight, being made entirely of plastic. The aircraft itself has a proprietary battery similar to a 9V battery, with an extra one in the box. It took us a little while to figure out how the battery was supposed to connect; the white tip at the end of the wires leading from the battery plugs into a recess in a compartment in the belly of the aircraft. It immediately began to emit very impressive blinking "landing" lights. It wouldn't fly, though. I figured correctly that the battery needed to be charged. And so we had to rein in my nephew's excitement as I connected the battery to my laptop through a proprietary USB charger. 30 minutes later, when my nephew was all but doing back flips in his impatience, we reconnected the battery to the craft. The remote: For the uninitiated, the remote is a bit bewildering. There are two levers, one for vertical lifts or falls, the other for lateral moves. There were other silver buttons placed here and there that gave no inkling as to their purpose. And there is also an LCD display that reflects the direction in which each lever is moved. But first, the remote requires four "finger" or AA batteries. Naturally, we had no spares lying around, so we salvaged them from 2 remote controls. It powered on Immediately, but would not connect to the craft. So then I switched off the craft and switched it back on, and lo and behold, the rotors started spinning and the vehicle moved off at speed as I indiscriminately tried each lever. My nephew snatched the remote and began taking the vehicle through its paces. Soon the craft lifted off the floor, buzzed dangerously close to a hefty family picture hanging on the wall, and gracelessly crashed into the dinning table amidst some light appetizers. Permission was required from my nephew's mother before she'd give us license to continue to experiment. In operation: All 4 adults at the house took turns trying to master this quadcopter. None of us had any experience with flying anything. We could not immediately master flying the craft. Ideally, as we were in the living room, we would have liked to hover the craft mid air, and then bring it down gently. But we could not figure out how to accomplish this. Sometimes the levers did not see to respond, leading to experimentation with the other buttons. And then the aircraft took off at speed, flying off in one direction or another, until its movement was arrested by an object. We gave in to my nephew's impatience and let him have the quad; it was his Christmas gift after all. He flew it all around but was promptly grounded after he flew it into his mother, giving her a sizeable bruise on her forearm. Our next try was at the park, where the craft proved to be very susceptible to the windy conditions, teetering off in one direction or the other as the wind blows. The craft could not handle grass, so we used it on a tennis court. To conclude: To the inexperienced, this craft is a bit of a challenge, though it does all that is expected of it. My nephew flew it as high as an estimated 10 feet. He has not mastered the knack of landing in gently. In that respect, the craft once again has also lived up to its expectations; it is as sturdy as it is hardy. It has taken quite a few falls, but remains in good operating order. It is so lightweight that nothing snaps off or pops out when it falls. The sturdy plastic endures, although evidence of the my nephew's punishing activities shows in scratches on the black plastic. I give it a rating of "4" because it works as well as expected, though it is a steep learning curve for beginners, and is a bit smaller than expected.

Compact fun
Bought this for a gift and got it back after they were tired of it. I love it even second hand still works well and has lots of juice left for play. Works well indoors and outdoors. Easy controls and fun

It runs good on the ground and flys well, too!!
The media could not be loaded. ย The x9 flys well, even in 8 mile an hour winds but only with power 2 on(See video)The front wheels turn and have a shock system helping the ride over bumpsThe back wheels don'tMy only addvice, if your are new to drones or helicopters, is don't fly it in the house till you have mastered wide opens spaces..The x9 will appreciate it and you will keep it in good flying condition a lot longerJust a note* 600 battiers in the description or only 500 mHh but they do well..It comes with two batteries and one gives me 20mins of fly and ground fun..the other only around 10minsThe price at 29$ is reasonable

It takes a beating then flys like new. The lights can be seen when quad ...
Stable and very fast. Tip it has much more momentum than other quads so stoping and turning on a dime once at full speed isnt really possible. Just give a little extra room while u get used to it.Battery after a few charges is giving close to ten minutes flight time and if u drive it around alot inbetween u should see aroumd 15 minutes runtime. And it has 2 batteries! Something very satisfying about driving off a ledge and swooping up just before impact or just seeing a car fly. High speed landings and take offs are seemless. It leaves me wishing all quads could drive. I really hope this idea catches on. At first it seemed to go out of trim every few minutes and id have to turn it off and back on to recalibrate so that im not constanly changing the trim settings. But after a few flights it has worn in and is flawless. It takes a beating then flys like new. The lights can be seen when quad is full tilt toward you at eye level so its a great night flyer

Decent RC vehicle, but nothing mind blowing
Got this yesterday, and been on the fence with it. Yesterday during a real quick test run, it had a minor crash (into a bush), causing it to not want to turn left while in driving mode. Today it seems to be working totally fine though. As for flyability, it does pretty good. Nice and slow in its low setting, good for indoors, and quick enough in its high setting for outdoor use. Seems to be pretty responsive in both settings. Doing flips and rolls, it seems to struggle on the recovery, but I wouldn't chalk that up as a deal breaker.Overall, I'd say it's fairly decent for the price. Really just got this since it's something a little different from the typical toy grade quad. It drives. It flies. Worth a shot in my eyes.

unique toy
this is definitely a unique toy part car part drone but its not a very good drone or car for children or beginners its going to be a little tough to control not having altitude hold it does fly ok for a toy but it does not have a good feel to it and as far as driving it theres almost no reason to drive it except its cool that it does that its realy only good for very smooth surfaces.

Lots of fun and pretty responsive with decent flight time!
Great fun! I bought these for my kids for Christmas. A slight learning curve so I recommend a large field with little or no wind. This came with two batteries so charge and take both. The car is responsive and very fun to play with. The range is very good and it can get pretty high. Make sure it is not windy or this will take off and you will not be able to control it. It is also hard for it overcome anything more than a gentle breeze so keep that in mind. Once you get good at controlling it, you can fly it inside provided you have a decent amount of time in you home. Be careful as the blades are not protected and can hurt someone if it flies into their face etc. I recommend supervising children while playing. The flight time is pretty good and the extra battery can be changed out in seconds and you will be back in business.
