Great lighting unit but......no power unit
Great lighting. Long Battery use. Bright light.....has a dimmer which is plus. The dimmer is turn based. Be careful though the dimmer is also the power switch. A long press on the switch can accidentally turn on the light while its packed away in a carry device and run down your batteries. I pack mine away in the box after each use which is not the typical way of carry and handling your Video/photo peripherals, but maybe when i invest in a looser and roomier carrying case, i will then carry this product with me in a case. It doesn't come with a battery and NO MATTER WHAT YOU READ....it does not use AA batteries. It also doesn't come with a powering chord/cable. It only uses F550/750 battery, so invest in charger (or two for the matter) and get at least a battery per light and a backup per light. The model i received is the PT-176S.

Excellent Light
I bought this light to use in my office for product reviews, vlogging and basic photography.I don't use it on my camera hotfoot, but instead bought the clamping flexible mount, so I can move it around my office as needed. It does not come with a power-unit, which is a drawback, but I ordered an AC Outlet power adapter for it for about $8.The light itself is exceptionally bright. It comes with a white and an orange diffuser. It has an adjustable knob on the back to adjust the brightness from a 10 all the way up to a 99. Even on the lowest setting (10), it is quite bright. With the white diffuser in place, I sometimes put a sheet of wax paper in front of it as well, just to dim it some more so it doesn't reflect off my face or over-saturate the video/photo.It's very lightweight too, so if you do have it attached to your cameras hotfoot, it won't weight it down.Overall, it's a great way to add additional lighting to a room, if you don't have room for umbrella lighting.

It's A Fine, Fine Light
Regarding the PT-176S. It's a fine light. It dims from 10%-99%. Or if it's 100% the readout only goes to 99. But that extra 1% wouldn't be noticed I'm sure. It's perfectly bright enough for typical usage. The orange filter provides a nice warm light in the 3,200 range. The translucent (white) filter however, does not produce any noticeable difference in temperature or diffusion compared to not using it all. So in an effort to urn lemons into lemonade I'll like try to use it as a "holder" for colored sheets of gel using double sided tape or some such. Your power choices for this light are limited to an appropriate AC adapter or this battery DSTE® 2x NP-F550 Battery + DC01 Travel and Car Charger Adapter for Sony CCD-RV100 CCD-RV200 CCD-SC5 CCD-SC9 CCD-TR1 CCD-TR215 CCD-TR940 CCD-TR917 Camera as NP-F330 NP-F530 NP-F570 Fortunately, I have an adapter and since I use it primarily as a back light for portraiture the need for the battery is low. If I take it out somewhere though, I have to hope for an outlet or really long extension cord. It took me a minute to figure out that you hold the power button down for more than a second to turn the light on and for the duration of that minute I thought I had received a bad light. Turns out I needed to give the manual a little more attention. I say this because the manual was written by someone with only a decent grasp of English and clearly not edited. It's pretty vague in places. In the end no harm, no foul. It does what I need it to do and is worth the money you plunk down on it.

One of the two I ordered does not work after 2 months.
It’s bright but not super bright. It’s bairly bright enough to light maybe a 2ft by 6ft area and it has to be almost inside that area. Over all they are fine but they have some issues with reliability. One of the two I ordered died on me after a month.I’m having trouble finding contact info for the company, and I can’t return to amazon because its out side of the return window... I’m getting the feeling I’m stuck with a broken light...

This is probably the best money I have spent on camera equipment
This is probably the best money I have spent on camera equipment! This little light is powerful! It is light and easy to use. It sat right on top of my Canon SL1 with no problems. I shot a wedding this past weekend and it gave me the ability to bump up my settings and use a faster shutter speed in a dark room while everyone was dancing. Then outside at 10pm we were able to take some playful shots of the group with it! 5 stars! It's great. Doesn't come with the battery so make sure to purchase it but totally worth it!

Very bright
This is bright enough to make a fine spotlight, but thats not what it's really made for. The light is variable by spinning the dial and hold it down for 1 second to turn it off and on. What I like is when you turn it on, it comes back on at the same brightness as it was last used. Say once you get it dialed in and find 68 works best for what you are doing, turn it off, turn it back on later it's at 68.Yes, it's does not come with batteries or have an battery door for AA, but if you want more features pay more for a model with those features. I got the set of 2 batteries and a charger that everyone else seems to buy and they work fine with it.

super bright. great for the price
it's a great light, especially for the price. I have even found myself taking the light with me on camping trip to use as a flood light. would work perfect for an emergency kit.its fairly light so it works great as a primary on camera light if you have a heavy setup (although npf batteries can add quite a bit of weight depending on the size of the battery). also works great as a fill light.I wouldn't call this light extremely durable as it is made out of cheap plastic but I am not super gentle with it, have dropped it and it still works fine. definitely a good cheap light.negative;mount that comes with light is very cheapno temperature adjustment/orange light filters is relatively uselessno battery level indicator
