The Legrand-Pass & Seymour 83300 Retrofit Reiker Fan Brace is a robust overhead lighting fixture designed for retrofit installation in finished rooms, particularly mobile homes. It features a spacious 16-cubic-inch electrical box and expands from 16 to 25 inches to fit various joist spans, ensuring a secure and level installation with its cast zinc self-leveling feet.

Best retrofit fan brace I have found
As an electrical contractor I use both the Reiker #83300 and #22200 fan braces very often. They are invaluable for installing a ceiling outlet box where there is little or no attic space and mounting it from above is not a good option. Once you cut the 4" diameter hole in the drywall, slide the brace up thru the hole, make sure the feet are set upright on the drywall, and then turn the bar to expand it against the ceiling joists or trusses. The metal points on each end dig into the wood for a permanent grip. I especially like the Reiker models because they are all-metal construction and the bar is hexagonal allowing a few turns with a wrench after you get it hand-tight. Not sure why the "one star" reviewer didn't like the mounting hardware. The box is attached to the bar using a U-shaped bolt and fastened with locknuts that are tightened from inside the box. There is nothing that can be tightened from above. I highly recommended these fan braces for making a difficult task much, much easier!

The best fan/light brace there is.
These fan braces are the best. I like the hex shaped rod. Makes it easier to expand to to clamp the box to.

Very solid and well made
I agree with Roger. I am a homeowner DIY'er and have installed 6 in my house and a few others in other houses. These are built well and are really solid if installed correctly; I have never had an issue with anything getting loose. The ends are cast metal and much more solid than some being sold today with bent sheet metal teeth. I will pay a little more and get this one again which I am doing now

Super lousy fan brace
I have not used this model, but if it is like their earlier one, skip it! I got a Reiker Model 22200 for free & that was too expensive! I wish I had known how poorly designed it is before I had committed to install it - I would have gladly paid double for the Raco Model VQFH that I used on my next installation. The key difference is that the Raco uses carriage bolts to secure the box to the brace, so you can get them REALLY TIGHT like they should be when you are suspending anything overhead, while the 22200 just used regular bolts with lockwashers - which spin when they are tightened very much. Fortunately I was able to get into the attic to re-tighten the bolts from above - but that may not always be possible & the alternative will be to start over - or trash it & go get the good one.
