Shadow

My 4 year old really enjoyed this book
This book is incredible, for what it is. It is a nonverbal book with no words (think Goodnight Gorilla) and almost no narrative (unlike Goodnight Gorilla). The book is oriented horizontally, and meant to be read with one page perpendicular to the ground, and the other page laying flat on the ground, to give the illusion that the shadows are being projected from the upper page onto the lower page. Each page, the shadows slightly change, suggesting what the girl is imagining, until she becomes wrapped up in the shadow world. Her play in the shadow world is disrupted by her mother's call that dinner is ready, and the final page reveals that her imaginative shadow play has made a mess of the garage she was playing in.My 4 year old really enjoyed this book, and after reading it, I held up a flashlight and let him make shadows on the wall, which he was thrilled with. I suggest doing the same, unless you are concerned about winding up your child before bed.Overall, this is a tremendous, inspiring, truly unique book. Just keep in mind that the lack of words prevents you from zoning our while reading to your child.

A good visual and thinking book.
This is a very fun book. If your kid is visual or you'd like them to learn some visual skills, this is a great way. I'm expecting my first child now, but a friend who is a parent showed this book to me almost 10 years ago when I was in my mid-twenties and I absolutely loved it. Enough to have bought it now that I'll be a mom and to have remembered it all this time!

Engaging Book.
This is an interesting book. The wordless illustrations do invite curiosity and engagement. I read it multiple times with my 5 and 3-year-old grandsons. Each reading revealed different things. When they figured out what yellow meant, it was very exciting. It takes patience and a tiny bit of guidance, but this book bears many repeated readings.

They loved looking at it more closely when it was then ...
I "read" this book for a preK class during a unit on shadows. They loved looking at it more closely when it was then put into the class library.

So Cute!
I bought this book and Suzy Lee's other book, Wave, for my 4 year-old niece. It was a hit. She kept flipping through both books over and over. She would walk away, and then come back to slip through them again. Which is exactly how I felt when I flipped through them. Even though it is a picture book, it really sparks the imagination. This will be one of my new favorite go-to gifts for children. And I really think it would be appropriate for any age. One that can be passed down for generations.

THERE ARE NO WORDS IN THIS BOOK
Maybe it's my fault for not reading the description more carefully, but this book has NO WORDS. It's simply a picture book that displays several shadow images. Although I would have given it 1 star, I'm giving it 3 b/c the kids in my kindergarten class really seemed to enjoy the book after learning about shadows in our Earth Science Unit.

Imaginitive and Inferring
I liked this picture book, the shadows come to life and then interact with the girl. My roommate appreciated this book for her classroom at the first grade level.

I love this author
Shadow is really nice, I would also like to recommend her other book, Wave, I love that book. Perfect for any children, but especially for those who are learning to speak because the narrative is given by the images (artistic draws). The draws spark imagination and stimulate them to narrate the stories using their own words. I gave it to my friend who has a 3-year-old daughter and she said the book was a piece of art. Highly recommended.

FA-VO-LO-SO
Consigliatissimo!
