Beautiful Sculpt
2020 Mattel Jurassic World Primal Attack “Sound Strike” Majungasaurus Majungasaurus was an Abelisaurid theropod from the island of Madagascar. It was quite the bizarre beast, even among the already strange abelisaurids. It’s a fascinating creature, and I was very pleased when I heard that Mattel was releasing one for the Primal Attack line. I am happy to say, they did not disappoint! The Jurassic toys have never been known for their scientific accuracy, but there have been a few that were pretty nice representations. This Majungasaurus is among them for sure. The head is a particularly great sculpt. Not only is it fairly accurate to the actual fossil, but it is extremely detailed as well. In fact, the head is the most finely detailed part of the entire figure. Lots of individually sculpted scales cover the face and lower jaw. I particularly like the small osteoderms on the snout, and how they give the face a gnarled look. As with all of the recently released carnivores, the Majungasaurus also includes a highly detailed tongue. It’s a small touch that adds a lot of realism to these figures. However, I wish the same care was given to the roof of the mouth. The upper palate has some light detailing, but is left completely unpainted. The scale details stop almost completely at the base of the skull. Instead, the details transition to mostly wrinkles and a crosshatching pattern. Lots of scutes cover the back of the figure as well. A row of quill-like spikes start on the lower jaw, and continue down the length of the neck. Those same spikes/quills run down nearly the entire tail, and jut out along the back of the ankles as well. While there is no evidence for them, I really like the unique appearance they give to the figure, and I applaud the artistic choice! The arms are pathetically small, but believe it or not, they’re actually a bit too large compared to the real animal! However, I cannot fault Mattel for that, as I really don’t think they could have made them any smaller without sacrificing their poseability. The legs are muscular, and very nicely detailed. The feet, while still a bit big, are nowhere near as oversized as some of the other Jurassic figures. They’re also beautifully bird like. The tail is probably the second most detailed part of the sculpt. Aside from the aforementioned spikes, the tail features some large skin folds, wrinkles, scutes, osteoderms, and the only real scale details aside from those on the head. The coloration is bright and eye catching. The mustard yellow contrasts well with the green body, and I love the splash of purple on the face and neck as well. I’m happy to report that the eye placement is pretty close to perfect on both of the ones I ordered. Mattel definitely seems to have improved their eye placements significantly lately. Unfortunately, as with all of the recent Sound Strikes, the claws and tail remain unpainted. The claws aren’t too much of a problem for me, but the unpainted tails are a big disappointment. Articulations are the standard for the line. Legs can move forward and back, and pivot outward slightly. The legs on mine are particularly stiff, but I’m happy for that. Given the low posture, the figure would likely fall easily if the legs were loose. The little arms, likewise, can move forward and back, as well as swinging outwards quite a bit. The wrists are not pronated. That’s another area where I would like to applaud Mattel. It looks so much better than the way past figures were portrayed! As with the other Sound Strike carnivores, the jaw is fully articulated rather than being tied to the action gimmick. This is wonderful for us photographers, and I hope it’s something that continues in future releases. The action gimmick is identical to both the Sound Strike Cryolophosaurus and Irritator. Move the tail left, right, up, or down, and the head will move in the corresponding direction. The roars are a nice blend of new sounds, and some Indominus Rex sounds. This is a good fit, as the Indominus contains some Majungasaurus DNA. Overall, I am beyond happy with this one! It features some wonderful and varied detail, bold bright colors, and surprising accuracy. It’s also always wonderful to add another obscure genus to the Jurassic lineup.

Nice Dino!
My son is obsessed with dinosaurs. This is just a new Dino to add to his collection. I really do wish I could get notified when these dinosaurs are released so I can buy them at retail price. I really hate how people price gauge for these little Dino’s that I’m giving to a 7 yr old. I can’t justify the price.

Awesome uncommon dinosaur
The rare exotic Madagascar apex predator roars on to the scene! Beautiful packaged under the the camp Cretaceous banner the brightly colored odd carnivore is ready to chase down park guests and harass other Dinos. Head and sound movements are controlled by the tail allowing for creative play and is a must thus Holliday season for the junior Dino lover in your life.

Too small and Copy Sounds
When this arrived I was super excited but a little disappointed. It is not that big and almost as small as a owen figure. But there was more that was disappointing. It has copy sounds!!!!!! The roars are from the Triceratops ROARAVORE figure and one roar is a Imdomonus Rex roar. But other than that this figure is great.

Empaque
