A revised review after using this for couple of months
Let me start by giving you some background first: The room I am using this system in is 11x15. I have 60in HD TV with a Direct TV DVR and a XBOX hooked up to it. I also wear hearing aids and the volume is controlled by a remote. The XBOX is hooked into the Direct TV box. I wanted something that would give better sound than the TV but I didn't was a lot of wires or boxes cluttering up the TV stand or the small room. I read all the reviews and thought this would do the job. Yes I do understand the old saw "you get what you pay for" but for $27 I thought what the he%l.The system came in and it looked nice and the size was right. I read the instructions and I started to hook it up............well I tried to hook it up. Now come the reasons for the 3 stars. This system will not hook up to my TV. All the inputs on my TV are ins, there are no outs. This meant I finally had to hook it to the Direct TV box. The problems here were that my remote would not control the volume, I had to use the controls on back of the system. Ok I had to get up and walk. However when I tried to use the XBOX to watch Netflix the sound I got was that of what ever TV program that was playing at the time. I had to turn off the system to use the XBOX..The system itself when on works great and I am please with sound quality. I can hear and I don't have to turn up the volume like I had to do when I watched TV by itself. Am I crazy but does the volume go up and down during a TV show and commercials?Revision 5/30/2015: I have noticed a very annoying trait of this system. When watching a sporting event this system is very good BUT I begun to notice that when I am watching a tv show or movie the lips of the actors doesn't match the sound. I know it is crazy but there is a time lag of less than a second between the tv and the sound out of the speakers. It is not very noticeable but after awhile it becomes annoying. It like watch one of those old Kung Fu movies of the 70's.

It works on some tvs, not others.
Received my speakers today and opened the box up, excited that I may be able to enjoy my tv sound a little better (why they think those speaker on the newer tvs are adequate!?!?!). I turned the tv around to make the connections and found two different places to plug in the cord from the bass speaker. Turned on the unit, it lit up but nothing. Pulled out the plug, put it in the other audio plug and nothing. I looked for other connections, but those are the only two on my Sanyo tv. So, the tv in the bedroom seldom gets used due to the poor sound quality. I set things up and again, there is an audio plug and on this one, there is one for a headphone. In the audio plug, again, nothing. I plugged in the speakers to the headphone plug and finally got some sound---but, only one of the small speakers will work (probably because we don't have stereo sound?). I played with the bass and sound nobs and there really is a huge difference and that tv may get a lot more use from now on with these speaker.I bought the one and had planned on buy a second one if the first did the job. So glad I waited or I'd have to send one of them back. I guess I will have to shop locally to see if I can find a sound bar that may work, thus making it easy to take back if it doesn't work. Amazon is great for delivery (and they probably are great for returning things, too) but sending something back is a hassle since we don't have a local UPS or FedEx here in our little town. I really hoped for the best, but should have known. I had read some of the problems with this set not working on various tvs, but didn't see Sanyo included in any of the reviews.I sure wish it would work. It seems to have tremendous sound for such a little unit and the price is fabulous. The hook up is very easy and it comes with a long enough plug and wires that it would have worked well, had it worked. I wish Amazon would list the tvs that this would work on to avoid this kind of disappointment. I'm afraid to try any other sound bars or speakers. I had tried old stereo speakers in the past, those wouldn't work, either.

A little hack for a huge improvement
I saw these in Warehouse Deals and picked them up for half price after a (far superior) 15 yr old Harmon Kardon 2.1 system finally quit on a PC that doesn't get much use anyway. These only deserve the praise they get because of the low price. The subwoofer isn't a subwoofer, meaning it doesn't isolate frequencies from 150hz down while blocking the mids and highs. It plays right up through a 1 khz. Don't expect bass. The satellites are tinny compared to systems that cost twice as much. "Ess" sounds can get annoying. They don't do a good job with music despite getting unexpectedly loud. I've had to turn the "bass" way down (even off) to avoid damaging the two drivers on the "sub". They do a good job with television and movie dialogue, but they're not significantly better than most tv speakers. Calling them a little better is more honest than most the reviews I see.So why four stars with all this criticism? Well, they're certainly worth $20 as is. They do in a pinch if you have no sound. They are not "great"; they really aren't "good". I guess they are "okay"; but I really like good audio for my music and this ain't that.So while looking at the electronics on the back I noticed this has a 50 watt amp playing into 6 ohm speakers. Well, that explains them getting nice and loud. Like most 2.1 amps I figure this is 12.5 watts into each satellite and 25 into the "sub". And and and, I just happened to have a couple unused 3" full range 6 ohm Yamaha satellites from a surround system. A little wire snipping and exposing and twisting and disconnecting the tinny 1.5 inchers and connecting to the Yamahas and oh yeah. These are as good as the old Karmon Kardons, and that's pretty derned good. I'm ordering new drivers and a low pass filter for the "sub" so it can actually be a subwoofer. There's just six little screws on the back and this thing gonna thump.

The reviews said that this system was really great, and I thought "what the hell
I have to say, I read the reviews and purchased because of them.... I am NOT disapointed!I have a 50" TV that I was just looking to "augment", not "blow my mind" with sound.... The reviews said that this system was really great, and I thought "what the hell, can't hurt for the price."I have to say, for my 1 bedroom aparment living room, the sound is just enough. Of course not dolby 5.1 surround or anything, but holy crap..... I have the bass at full and have to get up to adjust the volume (heaven forbid), but I can use it with my TV, iPad, iPod, etc.... super portable etc.I only have one complaint (1st friggin world complaint I know).... no remote. SO, you can mute your TV but the system can still be blaring until you get off of your butt to turn it down. It would be nice to be able to mute both at the same time. Seriously though... I'm just whining, no complaints!

Pretty good speakers
These actually have pretty good sound. They're good for smaller rooms and for adding some bass to your music. You can hook them up to a computer or mp3 player and can adjust the volume and bass level. If you're someone like me who values their hearing and doesn't like excessively loud music then these will suit you. Would recommend.

worth the money
For the the price they sell it at, it's pretty good, I like that it's small and has good base and good clear quality of sound. Atm I have it attached to my projector that have in a small room and for me it works great
