Works as expected. I use a smoker on occasion and am always making 100s of trips to the smoker to check the temp. This device keeps track of the smoker temp as well as the meat temp. What a big help. Now I can comfortably watch football while the smoker is doing its job. I smoked my 1st brisket using this unit and it turned out perfect. I also used it grilling chicken. I used to always cut up the breasts on the grill because I was always nervous making sure the chicken is cooked. I'd usually cook it to death. Using the thermometer I was able to get a perfect finished temp without cutting it up on the grill. Again, done perfectly. Last thing is distance. My smoker is about 125ft away and behind my metal barn. Signal was perfect. No loss of sync between the thermometer and the receiving unit. I could see the barn from my living room so I didn't really test walking all through the house. Anyway. It's a good unit, I'm glad I picked this up.

It did not two stars because of how it worked but more on quality of product, or maby just the one i got. First off as soon as i receved it i teated it in boiling water to test how close the temperature was usuially it is + - 5 degrees and both thermometers read 212 so great there. The first use was yesterday for my company i had a large pig roast so stuck one in the pig other on smoker rack. About three hours into the cook the antenna rubber piece broke off ( like it was weak or poor rubber. It was in my hand or coat pocket nowhere the heat of the smoker. Now i was going to get a diffrent temp gauge but price and some reviews got me to go with this one. Temp wise great. But now i dont know what is going to break next i do many parties weddings ect... Worth thousands of dollars and not sure if i will use thia again simpley becouse if that part broke ao easy what and when will this next piece break and leave me without a thermometer. I shouldnt have to have multiple thermometers. Maby its just mine but could be others. Not saying dont buy but maby you should get somthing with a little more product quality

Man, I really wish I had invested in a thermometer like this years ago for smoking and grilling. That said, this is a fairly inexpensive option, and this brand was recommended to me by a friend who had knew I was looking in this price range.First, the cons:Within a few weeks, the shroud encasing the antenna wires on both the sending unit and receiving unit broke. Just the shroud, though. The antenna wires are still intact, and I duct taped the shrouds back together and everything still functions correctly... it just looks crappy because it's duct taped together. I don't particularly care, but someone might.Also, the receiving unit will sometimes randomly lose signal, even if I'm not moving it around. I have to pick it up and walk back towards my grill until it reacquires signal, then I can set it back where I had it and it's fine.Pros:Price point. For the money, I'm completely satisfied. I can't compare it to another model or brand, as I don't have any experience with them.I haven't had any issues with the probes or probe wires (knock on wood), and this thing really is fantastic for monitoring smoker temperature without having to walk back and forth all of the time to keep an eye on it.

This product is exactly what was expected. Been putting off far to long a internal thermometer. Took about 10-15 min. to figure out the set-up. Only have used it once for X-mas Prime Rib dinner, worked perfectly, started beeping 5 degrees before set temp. allowing time to get to your oven and prepare to pull out your meat. Was anxious to see inside this 10 rib roast. Waited half hour for meat to finish cooking, started cutting into roast........perfect! No more HOPING for your meat to come out right. I hope it is durable over the long run.

UPDATE: Ivation recently reached out to me to assist with my issues with my original thermometer. Here are my updated findings on the replacement unit:1. Screen legibility has improved, somewhat. It is still dim straight on and only fully clear at an angle. That said it's much better than the original unit. Overall the screen needs some work but will suffice for use.2. Programming effort is still a weak spot. No change here. This unit will likely be impossible to program for many users without technical skills. I hope to see an improved unit some day from Ivation.3. Temperature accuracy seems to be much better than the previous unit. Time will tell.Overall this unit is an improvement over the previous version. Given that there are not many thermometers out there that provide the functionality of this Ivantion model it will be my go to thermometer until a better unit is available. I'm raising my review from 1 to 3 stars. I hope that Ivation will work with their manufacturer to produce a model that has a more readable display and a logical programming interface.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I guess I know why these were on as a lightning deal... the screen is unreadable, even indoors under indoor lighting. The LCD display is so dim it's almost non-existent.Programming is pretty much impossible without reading the instructions and even then it's so obscure that you'll need to refer back to them to figure out how to use the device.Not sure how this made it through QA with the severe screen problems. The only thing I can figure (since there's no way this thing could sell with this screen) is that quality control is very very bad OR they are putting returned merchandise back in as new and not checking. Unfortunately in either case this is unusable and is going back. I'll try to find a better unit from another supplier.

fantastic.can't figure out the dual temps for probe 1.dual temps for probe 2 works perfect.but fantastic product.

Fab for using in my smoke house for checking smoker tempo and internal meat temp as well whilst inside the house so no keep having to run outside to check also has alarms for low temp in smoker to let me know it needs topping up.

After 4 uses, the thermometer antenna broke, so I contacted ivation the 34th day after the reception. They agreed to exchange the product after a couple of email. It's been nearly a month since they received it and they didn't ship it back even after I emailed them.

One probe is broken after several times using. Display is very bad.

How to smoke something to perfection and have control over it at all times...this thermometer is excellent !!!
