A number of reviews have said buy a size larger than normal, but my recommendation would be actually measure your waist, don't assume it's what it was a decade ago, and use the size chart in the photo. If you are borderline then it depends whether you like a looser or tighter fit. I was borderline L-XL and bought the larger size because of the review comments. I wish I'd gone with the smaller size. They are comfortable and only shrink a very small amout when washed cool.
