Be warned - hopeless for non-smartphones
I bought this SIM to use with a simple unlocked mobile phone, because my elderly father was going into hospital at short notice and can't work a smartphone. I tried to make a call to find out the phone number associated with the SIM but this didn't work because the voucher wasn't pre-loaded. I then went to the Three website to do this, only to find that it required a phone number to load the credit voucher. You would think you could enter the number printed on the SIM to do this, but that would be too easy. I then tried phoning Three customer service, but an automatic message told me I needed to register the phone before I could access those services. It was not possible to speak to a human being to explain the issue, despite the recorded message telling me enthusiastically that Three offer "complete customer support."Looking at the Three website I find that to register an account you need to have - you guessed it - the phone number (what's the point of printing a number on the back of the SIM if you can't use that?). The Three website was also of no help in telling me how to identify the phone number. It told me to find it at the top of my My3 account (which you need the phone number to register for). It also explained where to find the number on a series of leading smartphones, which is probably helpful for smartphone users, unfortunately I bought my Dad an Artfone designed for elderly people and that wasn't listed. In fairness, the fact that the number isn't easy to find on the Artfone settings menu isn't Three's fault, but I don't think it's asking too much for them to provide some means of telling me he number for the SIM I just bought from them.In the end after an hour of going round in circles I had to take the SIM out of my phone to give to my Dad to use, as he was stressed about the idea of going into hospital with no way to contact family (because of COVID we won't be able to visit him for about a week). It seems to me there are two very simple solutions for all this:1. Print the phone number on the SIM or voucher card, or2. Allow people to use the code printed on the SIM to register it.Instead, after a very stressful wasted hour trying to set it up, I am left with a useless Three SIM, down £35 and with no phone of my own until my Dad comes out. Thanks Three.
