A very good series of games.
The Total Rome anthology is a great set of games of the Rome Total War game series. The game takes some time to learn to play, but it’s still lots of fun while you’re learning. These games focus a lot on army management instead of just a few units like the Age of Empires series. Army tactics and strategies are very important to learn and understand to get the best result in a battle with these games. The camera is a nice feature, as it allows the player to zoom in and out and spin to give the player a bunch of different views. In regard to the graphics of the game, from a distance the armies look big, scary, and awesome. Close up to the troops however is a little bit of a funny experience as the hand and feet of your troops are cone shaped and a little blurry. Like I said, this game focus a lot on army management, so anything related to an individual solider is not going to look to crisp. Settlement management is the hardest and most frustrating aspect of the game I have encountered. If you capture a settlement you then need to keep the people happy, otherwise you will start to lose money rapidly. I have had played this game for weeks and settlement management is still a challenge to me. You can set let the computer work on the settlements for you if you want, but I have found that to be frustrating at times. The game has great levels of difficulty. It’s not a breeze to win on any level which allows the game to be enjoyed for a much longer amount of time. The game does have multiplayer, but I have never actually tried it so I don’t now anything about its quality or how it works. The sounds of the game are ok, nothing special. Some of the sounds within the game like units dying can be a little funny, but other sounds like rams or siege equipment are pretty good. The games have both land and sea fighting situations. The sea battles, however, are very limited. It’s simply attack and what is result. I won, ya I’m great! That’s about all there is to the sea battles. The player also has to manage economic aspects such as trading and things, but that pretty simple to learn. The battles are a lot of fun; they don’t usually last such a long time to where it becomes tedious. The length of the battles is good, even when huge armies are present. The Barbarian expansion gives the player the best choices when it comes to nations. Total War only allows roman nations, and the Alexander expansion only allows the player to be Alexander. Overall I would give it four stars, it could be improved, but it’s still a great game. I would definitely recommend it.

All Three games are Stable when it works
RTW has played 5 times out of 65+ tries when I try to launch the game. “I get Error Message - go to Steam support site for more info”.Rome Total War installs itself into two places:C:/Program Files (x86) Activision/(x86) Activision/Rome Total WarC:/Program Files (x86) Steam/steamapps/common/Rome Total War[By the way (x86) means that it’s 32bit separate Program Files from the 64bit]C:/Program Files (x86) Steam/steamapps/common/RTW-BI (Barbarian Invasion)C:/Program Files (x86) Steam/steamapps/common/RTW- AlexanderIt has separate disk - installs, launches & plays fine without a disk. When I open RTW game (5x) via Steam & it played RTW.In RTW there was a dialog box to check either RTW or RTW-BI. See photoI was able play only 2x RTW-BI-(Barbarian Invasion) - without the disk (RTW).All three RTW games plays & very stable while playing game. [RTW, RTW-BI, RTW-Alexander]However, as stated my computer doesn’t always launch RTW.My rig: Win7 Pro, NVIDIA GeForce GTX1070ti, 32GB RamI want to launch RTW the first time, not after 65 tries…yes, I did: all the patches, RTW is in Steam, Steam Library has added RTW Game, Game Code was input & accepted by Steam, went into “preference file” to change from False to True - widescreen, Compatibility run as Admin, “Verified integrity of game files”, updated Windows, updated graphics drivers, performed clean boot, Win XP3 compatible.Problem is software conflict having two programs sharing one disk.I am waiting for Sega to email fix. Sega is great in emailing you, very fast response. Finally, after a month of emails, a fix, create new user…it works via Steam. Good Luck!

hopefull & pleased
When I purchased R.T.W.Anthology I did not realize that the strategy would be as challenging as it is. It test's your thinking. When your nearly 70 years old as I am it's very good for the mind.During the first couple tries at RTW I kept going into a "black out" and could not win that 1st. game. Had to get help working out bugs in my system. The music is very well done and would like to know who does the compositions. So far the history is very accurate and would be good learning tool for all ages. the designers of the graphics are to be commended, although that of Alexander and Barbarian fall short. The RTW map is much better. After all that the only thing I would like is a written manual for studying the content of the games. Lastly, I would like to be able to open the other factions like Spain and the other in RTW.Over all this is an supper game.P.S. A question: why is RTW a DVD while Alexander and Barbarian are CD-ROM?

Roma Victor !
I originally got this game as a warm up for the upcoming Rome III was also playing Civ V at the time and this was tilted more towards the battlefield aspects with less (but still important) focus on creating an empire with a strong economy.Running on Windows 7 with a half decent graphics card, it's great. The graphics are not the highest quality, the AI can be a bit dumb - but it gets the job done very nicely. Working through a battle with 10,000 men on both sides is great fun.Since the game engine is relatively old, it only uses 1 CPU so having a mega-gaming computer with 12 multi-threading CPUs isn't going to help. Slightly older CPUs with a higher clock speed is your best bet, but the main load falls on the graphics card.Sorry Civ V, but Total War Rome has my heart. Marching my legions to conquer all four corners of the known(ish) world is just too much fun.Once that gets old, there are several excellent mods that are easy to download and install. These extend the basic capabilities of the game engine with improved graphics, improved AI, and expanded maps.Definitely worth the price.

Perfect Intro to the Total War Series
This game is positively amazing!I was always curious about the Total War series, but never got around to playing any of them. I found the Rome: Total War anthology for a decent price, and snapped it up, and I most definitely do not regret it!If you're fond of antiquity, and real-time strategy, but don't want the hassle of resource management, this is the game for you. Or, if that's not the case, and you like turn-based, Sid Meier's Civilization-style gameplay, this is also the game for you, as this is the way the campaign works (along with real-time battles!).It also performs wonderfully on older machines, and manages to stay fresh and exciting 8 years after its release.

Great game!!!!! Highly recommend
Love this game!!!! Having all of them on 1 DVD instead of a bunch of CDs is also a plus. To me this version is much more fun and entertaining than Rome total War II. I would highly recommend this game and you get to learn a little bit of history with the words they use to describe the weapons armour and different troop names depending if they are heavy troops cavalry or light infantry

lots of fun
It is a fantastic game the graphics are amazing and you can zoom right into the action. My son loves playing this game and thought that since Dad had never played it before he would be able to kick some butt. However in the first game I ever played I wiped the battle field with him. You have to pay attention to the units and factions but it is alot of fun. Runs no problem on a laptop and windows 8
