Initial review: solid old school transformer
I just purchased and installed this for a friend. So many of the modern transformers have poor reviews for limited lifespans, and they seem to predominantly consist of electronic/switching power supplies. I’ve been seeking out older transformer-based designs, which this one is.The housing is stiff plastic - it feels like “Bakelite,” if you remember that. The clear window is hinged and on a slide - someone put some care into its design. The photocell drives a relay with a delay of about 15 seconds or so to avoid false triggers. The control knob is stiff, like it goes through a rubber seal and has a positive contact rotary switch behind it. The relay driving the transformer has a good “thunk” to it.All this to say, this seems to be a great transformer if you’re trying to stay simple and avoid complexity. I think electronic power supplies are more susceptible to RF from lightning, especially with 200 feet of “antenna” strung across a yard. The photocell function will likely be the weak part, while the transformer itself will probably last a lifetime.Only con: there is only one keyhole slot provided for mounting. It easily pivots on the wall, and a stiff tug of the wire outward from the wall would overpower the plastic and break it. The mount is rather sub-par.Just installed it at a friends house, and she is very happy with it.

Basic but reliable
I have only had it installed for a week, but so far it is powering my landscape lighting without any issues. I have it set on Auto for dusk to dawn operation, which works great. The unit itself is relatively basic compared to other brands, but it has all that I need. The cord is 6' which is longer than other brands and was the main reason I chose this. It is also very heavy for its small size. It does not get hot nor makes any noise. But the mounting notch on the back is too shallow, which limits your options to hang it on. Only a nail or a flat head screw will fit. A bolt head will not fit. Also shipping took over a week for delivery; the tracker showed it moving back and forth at the same depot locations in California for several days which was very odd. But overall I am very happy with this product so far.Update: 2 years later and still works reliably like a champ. On at dusk and off at dawn every day year round since the first day.

OK while it lasted, 9 months.
EDIT: Added a star as the seller promptly and courteously handled the issue under warranty. These should last years, not months! Lasted about 9 months before the timer function ceased. Now it's on 24/7, even when the control is set to "Off". Better than never turning on, I guess. I put it on an external timer. Also, timer function is poor in that minimum time is 4 hours. Two hours is needed for those with long summer nights. Finally, there's no way it's putting out the rated 150w. I'd guess closer to 100w, based on how many lights I can add before the over-current protection kicks in. Clearly a poor quality design.

works as advertised
The front cover, which I assume serves to protect the dials, filled with water after a moderate shower. The transformer is mounted in a protected location--so the this performance is disappointing. I don't know whether those dials in the front are waterproof--they better be 'cause winter is just starting. I might end up sealing all around that cover.update: The above problem has only occurred once, and must've been a freak combination of heavy rain and wind. It has withstood freezing cold, soaking rains, and intensive winds since then.

No Frills means less cost
I have purchased much more expensive transformers for outdoor lighting that had tons of features that I didn't want or need and didn't last. Who needs to be worried about setting and re-setting correct time and re-setting for time change, etc., etc. This product has simple photocell for on at dusk and select off after 4,6, or 8 hours is all you need or on at dusk and off at dawn. Perfect and simple!

Didn't even last a year.
Saw that my lights were still on this morning well past when they should have been shut off. So I went to the Transformer and nothing works on it. The dial doesn't work anymore in any function. Even to turn it off doesn't turn off. I have to unplug it to turn it off. I would not recommend this Transformer. It's 2 months away from being a year old.

This works
I installed a lower watt version of this transformer at my old house. Worked like a champ for many years and was still working great when we moved. So when I set out to install landscape lighting at the new house I was very pleased to find this 150 watt version available. Just installed it a couple days ago and so far so good. It is simple to set up and use which is just what I want. I hope this new one proves to be as durable as the last one.

Not worth it.
I purchased one, worked for a couple days with no issues then whole unit failed. Returned for replacement and againworked for a couple of days and dusk to dawn sensor failed.
