Really informative insight into the science and art variation of choosing and brewing coffee. Well written with lots of clear illustrations to help you understand why you like some coffees and not so much others. Also, why some brewed coffee doesn’t taste as you’d expected! Finally, detailed descriptions of how to make coffee in different ways. I feel enlighten and a little more knowledgeable.

Firstly, this is truly a coffee table book - it's a beautiful book and am super happy to own it even just for the aesthetic. It was accidental, but I went fully pretentious and took it into a very nice cafe to read while sipping on a piccolo, which thanks to the book, I now better understand! The book takes you from understanding coffee and what to look for when buying it, through tasting, brewing, and making all types of coffee. It's written in a very casual, enjoyable and relatable style along with very helpful pictures and diagrams to assist. I mostly brew my coffee using a moka pot and just putting into practice a couple of tips in the book instantly changed my coffee for the better! (For the curious, using a Brita filter on my hard water has completely changed the extraction now and I also wasn't boiling the water before putting it into the moka pot) If you have even a remote interest in coffee, I wholly recommend this book. Thoroughly enjoyed it and have found that I've changed my habits in multiple ways since.

Packed with every bit of information you need on every brewing method imaginable, some I've never heard of. At the end of it, no you may still not be making the worlds best coffee, but this book is more likely to help you than any other I've found. I bought the Kindle edition of this as it was only 99p, and for that price this is unbelievable value. I see it's now £9.99 and I have to ask first whether 99p was a mistake, and second if it really is time times as much now whether it's still such good value for money. I love the book but that seems steep for a Kindle edition when the hardcover is not much more.

I came across James' channel on YouTube and was immediately hooked. So i quickly looked up his book because I wanted to learn more about coffee. As a coffee newbie I find the book very insightful but still easy to read. James tries to explain the different facettes of coffee as simply as possible so everyone can understand why they are important without getting overly complicated and pretentious. I think he reached his goal by making me much more interested in the making of this lovely beverage. Moreover the book looks and feels really nice and is a must-have for every coffee table (no pun intended). Also, the value you get for the small price is insane. Highly recommend!

Anything by James Hoffman is excellent, and this book does not disappoint. Not too much science, easy to read and understand. Perfect for beginner and advanced coffee makers/lovers. I first bought a copy for myself, and this is my second copy I am giving as a gift alongside a bag of coffee beans.
