Koren Pirkei Avot (Hebrew and English Edition)

The Pirkei Avot is a book of wisdom similar to the Enchirideon, but drawing from multiple authors instead of one. Something you can dip into again and again to reference the wisdom of the early rabbis. This Koren edition is beautiful and sturdy with a colorful cover (perhaps buckram?), no pointless dust jacket, and even includes a lovely bookmark from the publisher. The commentary by Rabbi Marc Angel is very helpful and explains everything in context as needed.The pages are thick paper, and the only improvement I would suggest is that a larger font would have been welcome. As small as this book is there was definitely room to make it just a little larger and use a more readable font size. Or perhaps offer a large print edition of similar quality. As it was, reading glasses do the trick and I enjoyed reading this beautiful edition.

Great buy

The Koren Pirkei Avot is excellent in several ways: it has Koren's excellent binding and font selection, Rabbi Angel's commentary is clarifying and excellent in a way that is friendly to both Orthodox and non-Orthodox readers, and the notes break down phrases in both English and Hebrew in very clear English commentary. Rabbi Angel's commentary is relevant to both Jews and non-Jews and adds appropriate historical context to enrich the sages of Mishneh in a way that really opens up the text. An excellent text.

The translation is very apt and meaningful. The book is well bond and looks exquisite. Only drawback is that the Hebrew is on the left side and the the commentary begins on the left side of the page, moving right. Very good for native English speakers and students, but a bit disorienting at first for more proficient Hebrew speakers. That being said, I am very happy with my purchase! Shipped quickly and was packaged neatly. 8.5/10 would recommend.

Crisp, gorgeous typeface and layout, strong pages and binding, and ribbon plus cardstock bookmarks enhance the readability and focus of this thoroughly commentaried version of Pirkei Avot. Well-written and researched remarks explain various nuances and historically significant aspects while marrying the passages to modern life that relate those from any level of orthodoxy through to the secular population.

Livro muito bem feito.Possui folha amarela, o que em minha opinião é melhor de ler.A tradução para o inglês é ótima, e o inglês é fácil de ler e seguir.O melhor dessa obra são os comentários que esclarecem muito e ajudam a entender os ensinamentos dos sábios.O livro possui marca página.O único ponto negativo é que a diagramação é um tanto confusa, as vezes a continuação de um tópico que é interrompido numa página, só continua duas ou três páginas depois, e você precisa ficar procurando onde ele continua. Fora isso, tudo perfeito.

Really fantastic book, you’ll learn a lot with it, great quality too

I liked the binding, and the included bookmark. But more important was the readable font, and the extensive commentary.

" was ist der rechte Weg der ein Mensch für sich wählen soll" (Yehuda ha_Nasi zugeschrieben). Stellt sich diese Frage nicht auch Abraham, als Gott zu ihm sagte Lech-lecha (gehe für Dich)? Stellt sich auch mich diese Frage?Für mich als Nicht-Jude ist dieses Buch ein reiche Quelle an Inspiration und Freude. Herzlichen Dank an die Herausgeber!
