I have used this as a leader for braided fishing line. I am using 10 pound braid and this fluorocarbon in 8 pound test. I have this setup on 2 rod and spinning reel combos. I use fluorocarbon for it’s transparency and abrasion resistance. That being said, there are a few things you should be aware of. I have been using this setup for Walleye fishing from the bank for about the last month. On several occasions, I have tried to set the hook and broke the fluoro at the knot at the jig. On other occasions it has broken at the knot at the braided line. I’m not an expert but I have lost a few fish and many lures due to breakage of the line. I did a bunch of research and watched a lot of videos. The knots you use make a HUGE difference. I had been using a Palomar knot at the jig and a couple different knots at the braid. The Palomar knot does not work well with fluoro. I was having breakage with a double uni or a double-double uni knot at the braid. My go to now is what some pro anglers on YT call a uni knot at the lure. Shaw Grigsby has a video that he states he doesn’t know what the knot is called. Search YT for “best knot for fluorocarbon “. I have had much better results with this knot. I am able to confidently land 2-5 lb walleyes and not worry about breaking the line. The best knot I have found for attaching to braid is the modified Alberto knot. The river bottom here is rocky. Snags are an everyday problem. I can usually get my jigs loose without losing them now that I’ve found better knots. Search YT for “best braid-leader knot for light line: Lazy Alberto”. In all honesty, when this spool is gone, I’m going to switch to monofilament for my leaders. It’s way more forgiving.

I only use this Vanish for leader line not to spool an entire real. As a leader line it's great!!!! My spooling of a real process is: bottom layer the oldest cheapest mono I have laying around. This is just for a filler so you don't waste money putting the expensive "braid" on the bottom of the real that will never touch the water. Then my preferred "braid" is Berkly Fireline. This gets tied to the mono backer line and the spool is filled the remaining way with the Fireline. Then I usually add between 3 to six feet of this Vanish. After changing lures and what not once I'm down to half the original length of my leader I tie on another 3-6' section of Vanish leader line. I can get between four to 10 lure changes befor having to tie on another leader. This also helps save the expensive braid and I haven't even gotten to the benefit of the Vanish being nearly invisible in the water. I like it and it gets my recommendation!

This vanished brand holds up to lots of bites, a very strong line.. Can’t say I catch more fish..but we always come home with enough to feed the whole family plus some! Being using this fishing line for over 20 plus years. I feel very confident in using this fishing for catching fish…

I use this line in 8lb test for leader material. Works well for that. Have not tried it as a main line though. Just spliced to braid.

I have not found any problems with the Berkley Vanish Fluorocarbon 8lbs line, A good knot strength, cast well, the snoods length tend not to curl up like a lot of other fluorocarbon line I have tried and on the plus side it’s a large 2000 yards spool
