Good Bang For the Buck
Took a little while to set up and get dialed in with TV and other components but now this system " cooks". Set up suggestions , upgrade from the supplied speaker wiring and do use the " Automatic speaker setting " room calibration . I used this in a lower level theater room setting with very good result. Excellent 5.1 channel audio separation and sound clarity with "house shaking" ability. Very good music and AM/FM playback as well. HT-R 593 AV receiver has the capacity and inputs to drive a variety of components. Although not a truly high end system a great value giving above average performance.

Great sound with a quirk
The clarity is great. I haven't tested volume capability yet - because I have a wife who doesn't like it loud - but I hope it can go to loud. I'm an old rock n' roller. The only actually complaint I have with the system is that when I first turn it on to watch television it shortly goes to BD/DVD which loses the picture and sound. When I click back to CBL/SAT a few seconds later it then switches to TV/CD which loses the sound. After this consistent dance it stays in the right setting. It doesn't happen if I go to FM or BD/DVD directly. I haven't contacted Onkyo yet regarding this problem.

At least I got a refund
This unit for me had a buzzing sound coming coming from the subwoofer. When you touched the sub you could feel that it had a constant vibration it was emitting. Unplugging it would fix it but then start up again after a couple mins. This means for the few days I had this unit I used it with no subwoofer. The final straw was on the fourth day I was adjusting the volume and it would show it going up and down but the volume stayed the same. Thinking this is strange I adjusted it to max volume and after 5 seconds of no volume change it finally kicks in. Now I'm trying to turn it down cause it is blaring but now I can't get it to go lower. You should have seen the cat run lol. After a few seconds it finally does lower. I unplug it to let it do any resetting and give myself a breather. When i boot it up again everything seems back to normal, well for five minutes anyway. Now the sound isn't working at all. Right then and there I started unwiring everything and putting it back in the box to return it. I don't have the patience for a new piece of equipment to have so many problems in the first week of use.

Worked well when it worked
It was great when it worked. After one year, the sound stopped working and I would have to reset the unit constantly in order to get sound. I contacted the company, they never replied back. Good while it lasted.

Great Theater System
This system surprised me. Its lower cost caused me to be suspicious of the sound quality. That was totally unfounded. You don't have to pay a fortune to get excellent sound. The 5.1 surround is excellent and the set-up procedure automatically sets the speakers to the ideal for whatever room you are using. I tried to improve on the settings and after playing with the system for an hour concluded that the automatic setting system was much better than I was and so I went back and redid the initial setup again. Everything you need is in the package and the instructions were very clear. I highly recommend this system. It is far from the most expensive system out there but it is the one you really be happy with.

Surround sound upgrade: )
I bought this for my boyfriend for his birthday....he was so surprised when it arrived. It's more high tech than his old one he had for several years.

sound bars sound better than this
does not have the sound quality expected for $600.00. the large bass speaker can barely be heard. sound bars sound better than this. would llike to return for different unit. just went over one day over the 30 day return window.

the two amplifiers cost more money than just the better amp alone
for the amount of money, I thought that I would at least have zone 2 capabilities. Wrong! I had to purchase an ADDITIONAL amplifier in order to use my outside speakers. This should have been made clear in the description of the item. If it had, I would have opted for the more expensive model. As it is, the two amplifiers cost more money than just the better amp alone! Very dissatisfied.
