Used a lot
Have had this now for some while and made excellent use of it.You can of course use many different E book suppliers and am not qualified to know if other brands are as flexible. It took me some while to be confident about downloading again I don't know about other brands but am told by users they find theirs easy.Check out the battery holding capacity if buying this model,as mine is very poor and loses power quickly and particularly if not used for a few days.Newer models may have a better life capacity. It has lots of extras and I gather very useful if you are a student or want to make notes etc..I am pleased with my Sony apart from the battery capacity

?new product ....:) Joke
I purchased this product in June 2012 as a new and paid for that £180. I did not use it by now and it was my fault. When I started to use it now, turned out that the Sony reader is not new, that there are books already on it and they in German language, even box looks not new. However due to my mistake not to check it on arrival ( I was actually abroad for most of the time),I had no choice and use it. Unfortunately after 2 days it has frozen and now can not switch off,can not even change the page, con only put it into the bin...Sony itself is very good product, but because I was cheated on product states and sold well used product, thats why I pay the price now.Hope you guays will buy new product from shop or from honest seller. Wish you luck.

constant problems
I bought a SONY PRS-600 as a present for my wife. (whereas I have a Kindle. so we can compare.) Sony - has constant problems. every couple of months it just freezes and cannot be recharged from either PC or directly from a plug. usually 30-60 min of fiddling online trying to update software works, but not always. seems like a pretty capricious machine. (Kindle also has a better screen and is much more comfortable to use. In all fairness though I had to change 3 kindles in a year (through warranty) becuase of their frozen screen problem. so not ideal either).

What a Revolution
I bought this device because we travel for many weeks at a time each year and carrying 30 books in a 75 litre backpack is tiresome to say the least, although we do give them away as we go. So, asked for this for my birthday and it's brilliant. I love books, read all the time and wondered how I would make the transition but after the initial first pages, I forgot what I was reading the words on and lost myself in the book. I have used it many times now and can't praise it enough. I did so much research before buying and had favoured the Kindle at the outset but, as with another reviewer, I got concerned about not owning the books because Amazon yanked off a couple of titles from ereaders because of copyright issues. That's like you paying for something, them coming into your house and taking your book from your shelf. They restored them but said they couldn't rule out it happening again! The books stay on my computer all the time and are copied onto the Reader; that way I have a backup too. Not so with Kindle. I have downloaded over a hundred books for free as they are in the Public Domain; it's good to revisit old favourites and have the chance to read others - at no cost. I have bought several books from W H Smith which, once I got my head round the system, worked very well. I still read paper books, you just need to look on it as what's convenient at the time. Love it, love it, what more can I say.
