not as great as the first art book, but still well done
The first Captain America art of book surprised me in how well designed and interesting it was. It incorporated a lot of comic history into not only the concept art, but the final film design. This book continues that, but with less emphasis on the comic origins; that is, there's not as much "history" included.Just likeย Marvel's Thor: The Dark World - The Art of the Movie , this one is laid out chronologically vis-รก-vis the film. Cap's redesigned costume is given an overview, as is Black Widow's, but where the book really shines is with the Winter Soldier and Falcon. Bucky's section is especially interesting because he's the only modern character in the film. The Winter Soldier was created in the late 2000's, unlike Cap and Falcon who have been around for 50+ years. In the comics, he has a domino mask and the concept artists pay homage to that with the military ant-glare paint around his eyes under the goggles. The design and physical implementation of his metal arm was very cool. Falcon also gets a lot of pages devoted to his design, and deservedly so. The various concepts for his wings are incredibly interesting as well as how the SFX render them in the film. The other really strong point of the book is how physical locations, like the Triskellion and Smithsoneon, were conceptualized to fit real-world locations. The section on the museum has full page spreads of the murals drawn for the film, and has a beautiful fold-out rendering. The Triskellion section was far better than I would have expected in how much emphasis was put on making it realistic in its location along the Potomac River and how they reduced the helicarriers from 5 to 3 because 5 would not fit under the river! The destruction of the helicarriers, and how the battle damage from every main gun was fully mapped, has some brilliant concept art to accompany the explanation. My main criticism of the book, and why I deducted a star, is the over emphasis on storyboarding. This is where a sequence is mapped out via small black and white panels. This is useful and interesting - ONCE - to see how an action sequence is developed and how art is fundamental to that process. However, there are six different sequences included here comprising 30+ pages of the book. They got boring very fast.Just like the previous releases, the hardcover book has a wrap-around image on the cover instead of s dust jacket and a different wrap-around image on the slipcase. One change I noticed is that unlike the previous books, which were all 10" high without the slipcase, this book is 9.5 inches. The slipcase has a bit of padding at the top and bottom so that it is the same size as the other film slipcases. I'm honestly not sure why they did this, though I am glad the cases all line up nicely on the bookshelf. Overall, this is another fine installment of the Art of Marvel Films collection. Highly recommended.

Kindle Version has been updated
First, if you've hesitated to purchase this based on reviews that say the Kindle version is poorly formatted, that is no longer an issue. I contacted customer service today with that problem, and they had me download an updated version of the book. It's very readable now, but be aware that it's more like a pdf than a typical ebook; you will need to pinch to zoom on the text rather than changing the font settings on your reader. As for content, this is a wonderful book. The illustrations are amazing, and the information on how the movie was developed is very interesting. I feel like this book has more images directly from the movie than some of the other art books in this series. There are a lot of storyboard frames and discussions on character designs.I would definitely prefer this in a printed edition, but unfortunately it's out of print and out of my budget, so the kindle version will have to do. Hopefully someday they will reprint it.

Wish I had the actual book but glad for kindle version. Great book!
I don't know what I was thinking not buying this when the movie came out but I'm glad I have it now. Unfortunately its not the actual physical book, as cool as it is I cant drop that kinda dough for a book now that its crazy expensive but I got the kindle version. I'm new to kindle so I don't know much about it however the book looks great except for double page spreads which get cut in half because you only see one page at a time. Unless theres some way to show two pages at once, like I said I'm new to kindle so I don't know.Anyways, if you liked this movie I highly recommend this book. The artwork is awesome!

Beautiful Art Book!
This is my first Marvel movie artbook and I'm pretty impressed with the print. Some of the images are dark though but it's still amazing especially the back-to-back panoramic pull-out poster. There are only a couple of pages for the Black Widow concept art as well as Nick Fury. The rest of the book contains Captain America, Winter Soldier and Falcon costume designs, storyboards, vehicle, weapon designs and set concepts. There are also scenes from the movie and rare studio photos of the actors. My favorite so far are Falcon's concept art and the construction of his wings. Great collection if you are a fan of the movie!

ILLUSTRATIONS. OH MY.
The best part of this book are the drawings. The still images from the movie are great, but hey - I have already seen the movie. It is the drawings that make this book truly spectacular, the comic history they depict and explore. I adore the center fold-out, and the cover is simply AMAZING (features Bucky and Steve, metal arm slamming against shield scene). Very inspiring for the artist in all of us!Comes very well packaged, inside a hard cover that protects yet another, drawn, hardcover.Definitely get the hardcover version. Much more durable - and beautiful!

Another superb volume in the Marvel "Art of...." collection....
These hardbound books are printed on high-quality paper and presented in a handsome slip cover. The art is amazing, the book is split into sections by location and characters. The text is well- written and the enthusiasm of those behind the scenes really comes through...these folks are enjoying their craft and really enjoy sharing it.These books do what great old movie programs used to do....commemorate the film and provide a lasting keepsake of it so you can visit it again and again...Highly recommended!

Very nice for Cap fans
I've gotten two others from this series (Captain America The First Avenger and The Avengers) and this one lives up to them.My only quibble (and not enough to deduct a star) is that I felt there were too many black and white storyboards - would much rather have more color design pics, behind the scenes stuff, etc.

Great Book, but those secondary prices are a joke. Ryan Meinerding is a damn MARVEL treasure.
Great Book, but those secondary prices are a joke. As a rule, I always preorder these things well in advance to avoid the price gougers.

Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier: The Art of the Movie.
Marvel certainly pull out all the stops when it comes to publishing these beautifully presented accompaniments to their movie series and this one for The Winter Soldier is no exception. In full-colour throughout, it provides a fine selection of concept design for characters, costumes, hardware and sets together with story-boards, from comic-book to movie progressions, stills from the film and behind the scenes processes as well โ use the โlook insideโ option above for a sample of the contents.A hardback book with a stout, protective slip-case this is another fine volume to add to one`s concept art library.

Cap vs Bucky
The media could not be loaded. ย The second entry in the Captain America film series sees our titular hero go up against his old pal Bucky who has been transformed into the soviet weapon The Winter Soldier. The book gives us a nice behind the scenes look at the critically successful 2nd film in the series, storyboards for key action scenes in the film along with character designs, props and vehicle designs.A must have for any fan of the Marvel films or Captain America fans.

Beautiful
This is the first time I have bought something like this and it won't be the last. The artwork is stunning, so much so that if I had the money I would buy a second copy so I could frame some of it up on my walls. All the behind the scene information is really interesting and adds to the repeated viewings of the movie. If you love the movie half as much as I do, then do yourself a favour and purchase this, you won't regret it.

cool!
I really love all the Marvel Artwork books, this is my 3rd one! The only reason I gave it 4 stars because I have both, The Avengers and Iron Man 3 artwork book and they were a lot bigger than the Captain America one, but somehow it worked out to be the same price! I was expecting it to be the same size as the 2 I already owned!
