Laguna Top Filter for PT795

Perfect one! Previous one was returned as it was sky blue instead of grey & slightly damaged during shipping. I wanted the grey version for outdoor/ indoor as blue & light color cook with UV.Ask for Amazon box, it will absorb the shock- it’s quite heavy, very thick plastic.I returned the blue model, reordered the filter and received the correct grey/ black colour.The black is made by Guppy in Malaysia for Laguna ( the blue were made in Malaysia by Guppy but not branded).As previously mentioned, the model is discontinued. I was surprised to see so little reviews online about this great filter.- I have tested many other brands gravity filter for different use ( Yamitsu etc) but Laguna is better as you can easily adapt your different media in 3 chambers / compartiment with your needs/ type/ size of fish/ season specially when beneficial bacteria decrease to almost none in my growing zone in fall/ winter , I swap the bio ring with coarse sponges & bio balls to increase progressively the mechanical filtration - You can remove the panels in the box & adapte it.The Yamitsu gravity filter feeds the bog filter and the plant finish the filtration. I have no green water/ no UV on my filter. The bog filter does the job with the plants.However it’s a different story when I overwinter the fish. The Yamitsu don’t have this capacity.Ideally it’s the ratio of a sump filter but the garage is not heated to keep the beneficial bacteria alive.This Laguna filters more water / slower than the Yamitsu, making a better transition after the bog filter.The fish are in the garage from October til early April - almost 6 months! No food when temperature of the water reach 50 F.I replaced the PVC pipe with long bars in order to support/ place the filter over the rubbermaid 300 G. As well I added a PVC on the return in order to maintain oxygenation but avoid the splash - the temperature of the attached garage went down to 33 F this winter.I may use it outdoor this summer.-The design is great, it’s a Sump & Gravity filter and because it is entirely on the top of the pond ( 300 G Rubbermaid overwintering in the garage) it will never empty accidentally your pond if you forget to maintain it properly/ pump empty your pond / container etc...The model is PT 771, the retail cost was almost $140! At $70 on Amazon, it’s a bargain of 50%!It won’t last! Get one!

I have seen and used many Laguna filters in the past but this is the first one I have ever seen that does not come with any type of media. While the lack of media certainly allows the user to customize the filter for their particular application it does mean that you will need to spend more to purchase filter media. Lack of media drops the rating from 5 stars to three.I ordered this filter and it was fulfilled and shipped by Amazon but arrived missing support pieces. Amazon box arrived in perfect condition however the Laguna product box was damaged and support pieces missing. Not worth time or cost to return but frustrating. Also no directions/information to outline maximum pump size best suited for filter. Never should have been shipped by Amazon in that condition. Thanks to Amazon's failure to ensure order quality/completeness another review star removed dropping it down to two stars.I have had the filter installed and running on a 50 US gallon quarantine tank for about a week now so will have to wait to see how/if it can maintain proper water quality. (See photo) Time will tell. Utilizing a 350 gph pump. Both mechanical and bio media in use in filter.
