I took a risk...
This is a review for the HeatMate Graphite Heating Technology Pop-Up Toaster specifically. Some products get bunched together which is problem for another discussion, but I wanted to make that clear. If you're looking at this toaster then, like me, you're probably getting pretty serious about toasting and thinking of going pro. I had a toaster oven that has been working for over a decade - which worked great as an oven, but was quite slow as a toaster. I scoured the internet for toasters, toaster reviews, etc. I was really interested in the Magimix toaster as it had a window but that thing will set you back almost 300 bucks. This one came up a few times, but alas it had no reviews for this particular item. All the other products from this Japanese company had great reviews so I thought I would pull the trigger as it's around half the price of the Magimix toaster even though it had no reviews...I was not disappointed. I've had the thing for about a month and I can (right now) it is amazing. Toasts fast (like really fast) and evenly. Has easy to use and understand controls with a convenient cancel button, which becomes a game changer with the window. You can see the exact moment your toast is ready. Has an easy to remove crumb tray and there is a less easy way to take glass out and clean it as well. The body looks beautiful with the seafoam colored metal body. The only test that remains is the test of time. If something stops working within a couple of years I will be back here to let you know.Go forth my toasting friends and make your informed decisions.

A toaster oven that works and brings zen tranquility to your life
I can't compliment this toaster oven enough. It looks nice on my counter -- like a smile greeting me first thing in the morning. It makes great toast - evenly browned and crispy, yet airy. The graphite heating element is first rate too -- they weren't kidding when they said it got to full heat in 0.2 seconds. If anything, it makes toast in half the time of other ovens that I've had. It also makes other foods well -- baked potatoes, pizza, salmon are just a few items that I've made and they've come out well.In terms of construction, it's solidly built, like a bank vault. The pans that are supplied with the toaster are super heavy gauge as well -- nothing flimsy about any of the pans.I also like that it's simple to operate. I looked at other ovens with multiple digital timers and gadgets -- way too complicated. This oven has two knobs - time and temperature. It's impossible to mess up. This is part of the 'zen' that I'm talking about. It makes mealtime more tranquil.

Let's break it down...
I will start by saying this is a good, high-quality toaster oven. If it meets your needs, as it does for us, it will be great. If you want to use it as a little oven for cooking, it will probably not be great. Our use case is 2 people, primarily toasting bread and English muffins in the morning, and heating dinner bread. Very occasionally we use it for other things. We wanted something small and light since we put the toaster oven under the cabinet when not in use, something that toasted well, and something with a nice build quality and aesthetics. This hit those marks for us.On the plus side, the toast we make is better than with our old Cuisinart toaster oven. I am not sure if it is due to the type of heating element, but toasted products are really nicely done. A bit more of a crisp in a way, but not overdone. So A+ there. The unit is very light, and small enough to tuck under the cabinet. Very convenient in this way, and the looks when it is out are nice. The light inside the oven when it is on is also welcome, you can easily see how your stuff is doing. The door mechanism is really solid and nice as well, it has a high-quality feel, and the slide out rack is nice.On the neutral side, the unit comes with some little pans. Not sure if we will ever use them, but it also has a bread screen which is nice and we keep it in there all the time. The plug does go in upside down. This is no big deal. One misconception that people have is that you can't turn off the oven until the timer is done. That isn't true, you can turn the timer off at any time. It says to do so right in the instructions. So, that information is incorrect, we turn it off when it is done every time we use it. Finally, the size of the toaster oven is as stated, 4 slides of toast. Can do 6 or maybe 8 English muffin halves. This is what is advertised and it is accurate. On the negative side, the timer is a little funky. It sounds like a heat lamp timer or sauna timer using a mechanical spring. It is both quaint and slightly annoying all at once. There is also not a lot of height inside. In other toaster ovens you might have a lower rack position. This one is a single rack that you can't adjust. And finally, the door doesn't do down to a flat position when open, so you have to kind of lift your toast out a bit rather than just slide it.So overall, if you want a quality toaster oven that looks nice and is designed for one task - making toast, muffins, etc., - this is a good option. If your situation requires more, you might consider something else.

Gets Hot quickly
Sengoku is very famous for its traditional oil heaters in Japan. With their knowledge and technology, this toaster is great to purchase!Simple temperature and time setting.Beautiful look.Good size for 4 slices of bread (regular size in Canada), 2 slices for Japanese size.Because the heat up quickly, the bread will be crispy outside, soft inside.Try with a thick slice of bread!I checked the review in Japan before purchasing. This product is still in high ranking since 2018.It is pricier than other toasters, but I strongly recommended it.ちょっと高いので迷いましたが買ってよかったです。厚切りパンがとても美味しく焼けます。デザインもとっても素敵です。白を購入しました。遊びに来る友達にも勧めています。

Works great but paint on pans comes off.
The roasting tray and cover accessories' paint started to come off when I tried to use a plastic scrubby to remove some baked-on spots. I stopped cleaning them when I saw that the paint was coming off. I worry that the paint might flake off onto any food that gets roasted now. I guess I'll live with burnt roasting pans and I'll cover them with aluminum foil and/or roasting paper to keep the food from touching the surfaces.
