Work perfectly and reliably, and are authentic FTDI chips
I've been using these for several years on an enterprise-level product. I literally have deployed more than 300 of these over the last several years on nearly every version of Windows since XP. I have had a handful of failures over those years which is to be expected, but the remainder of them have remained rock-solid to this day.FTDI officially doesn't supply drivers because FTDI is a chip manufacturer and not a reseller. You find the drivers from CPTechUSA. You can easily find it by searching for CP-US-03 drivers. There have been several revisions to this cable over the years, and some versions of windows will auto-detect and load drivers for certain versions of this cable assuming you allow your computer to connect to the windows update. I've also used these with Fedora Linux (14, if I recall) out-of-the-box, and they've worked perfectly fine there too. If I had any complaint, it's that the current version doesn't seem to have a windows store driver available yet - so I have to use the drivers from their website. If you need an RS232 DB9 Serial connection on your computer, this is the cable you want.

"Easy Installation"- not at all
The installation information was very specific and easy to understand. However, the inclosed CD did not contain anything near the files described on the instructions. At least they did have a web site that did contain the described file for XP.

Fire/Security Alarm Tech Approved
As an employee for a nationwide fire and security service provider, I often have the need to use serial communication for programming of older legacy equipment. Unlike others I have used in the past, I have had no issues so far with data loss or crashes on data transfer. It is a good product at a decent price. The plastic around the Serial end connector is transparent. Other competing models include some kind of indication of data transfer through the adaper, however, thus one does not. Not a deal breaking feature for me, it is still a great adaper.

Wrong product, tricking is bad business.
The fact that people think that advertising one product and giving another is ok is bad business. This seller tricked me into buying their product with an incorrect title and picture. I don't want to have to read the fine print to know that I'm getting a cheap knockoff that doesn't work. I don't recommend this seller.

USB to SERIAL adapter that actually works!
After reading many of the reviews people had left about problems with these types of adapters, I settled on the CP Technoliges USB to Serial Adapter. The drivers installed with no problems. The throughput speed is much faster than expected, especially considering COM ports aren't the fasted things in the world! (I did increase the port speed manually, and the adapter was fine with it.)Excellent product, at a great price. You should also note that this adapter is far less expensive than many of the others. If only everything was less expensive and worked better!

Works for me!
Setup in seconds and worked fine for me to sync a Palm Vx with a Dell Windows XP machine. Just make sure that you install the drivers first (the CD is almost hidden in the packaging). My Palm also now syncs wayyyyyy faster than it did with a real serial port (which makes sense, that's why they did away with them), but it's a nice added benefit that my hotsync now only takes a second or so.
