Works well; Packaging and instructions should accommodate likely users
I purchased this scale to replace an older model that sort of lost its voice. The design is similar, with larger buttons and a slightly clearer voice. The older one came with a plastic bowl that sat on the round platform for weighing things that might need to be contained. This one has a squarish platform and no bowl, but retains the Tare function so that you can supply your own. Operation is straightforward. The buttons are easily identifiable once you know what they do, but that will not be obvious if you cannot read the labels. That leads me to the one complaint I have. This is a talking product. I don't know what the breakdown is between people who buy this for the novelty, like not having to look at the display as they prepare food, and those who cannot see the display, but the latter category does exist and I have seen this product carried by sellers that serve that segment, myself among them. I'll grant that I may have missed something. I did not examine the package contents closely as i knew what I was getting and how it worked. I used a magnifier to identify the controls and immediately put it to work. However, I did not see anything that looked like large print instructions, or some means of providing audible feedback for someone who is not familiar with the scale or can't use a magnifier like I did. Yes, blind people do cook. That would be a nice touch for a product like this.

Whatever you do, don't lose your warranty card.
As is with many products for the blind, choices are few. When it works, it measures fine. Unfortunately, this scale seems to break down often. So much so, I've had to buy two separate scales to always have one as a backup. I've ended up having to exchange both scales three times each. They're lasting me on average two to three months. This most recent exchange, I got a note from the company that this would be the last exchange they would honor. So much for that twenty year warranty... I mostly use it for things like measuring coffee beans and water. Not exactly heavy wear and tear. Again though, This and maybe the other talking model with a weight capacity of 5 KG they sell are the only talking scales capable of measuring by the gram. So basically, make sure you don't lose the warranty card that comes with the scale and be prepared to eat the nine or ten dollars it's going to cost to ship it out for a replacement.

Nice scale but can use some improvements still would suggest buying it even then.
This is a nice scale. However it can use some improvements. Example: When you press the button to switch between Ounces and Grams it should tell you that. Also when you use the Pair button it should tell you when you are in Pair mode. The plus it will tell you when you turn it on and off along with when you switch to a different language. For a blind person, there are two slide switches on the bottom of the scale. The one closes to the front of the scale is for the Volume and the next one is to turn on or off the voice. When both buttons are slide to the outside edge the voice will be on and the voice will be set to the highest setting. On the front of the scale when it is sitting upright there are 4 buttons, from left to right are Pair, Mode, Off and then On.

Very nice talking scale for weighing food or packages
This is a very nice scale. I‘ve had the My Weigh 3000g model for 10 years and it is still working well but decided I wanted one that could wait a little bit more because I ship packages that can way up to 10 pounds so past that one along to my best friend. It’s very sturdy, has a Square platform rather than a round one and does not come with a bowl like the previous model did, but that’s not a big deal to me. Unlike the previous model it also has two volume levels which are loud and very loud. This is not a feature that adds anything to the product for me, but it is a great product and I’m glad I bought it.

Won't last forever
This is the best talking kitchen scale available and, since 2008, the third one we have purchased. Eventually the scale will start to error out. The first failure was our fault for storing a heavy item on the scale in the cupboard. The second failure was also our fault when it fell from above head height on to the floor. I wish it was more durable like commercial restaurant models. A talking NSF kitchen scale would be a very popular. For now though, this is probably your best option for talking food scale.

Great Talking Scale
I needed an accurate scale for weighing kitchen items, particularly for roasting smaller amounts of coffee. This scale resolves to within a tenth of an ounce and appears to be accurate. There is a way to calibrate it if you are at a dramatically different altitude. The buttons are large, and the tear-away function is nice (i.e., you can put a container on the surface of the scale and zero the weight of the container so that you are only measuring the weight of the material you place in the container.) It is also capable of other languages, Spanish for certain and I think Chinese as well but not sure which dialect. There is a three-position volume switch if you don't need the talking feature.

dead after 11 months of light use
I think I've only used this less than a dozen times. It's dead. Batteries are fully charged and I've tried multiple sets of batteries. It's just dead as a doornail. I tried to follow the "get support" links and I find no way to submit a warranty claim. Needless to say I won't be buying a replacement from this mafacterer.

Exactly What I Needed
The MyWeigh VOX 5000 is an excellent product that works as advertised. With this talking kitchen scale, weighing and portioning food becomes a simple process. This product is easy to use, especially if you are totally blind. I use the tare function on a daily basis. Always keep the warranty card. This scale has a 30-year warranty and will be repaired or replaced by HBI Technologies.
