WD Green 2 TB Mobile Hard Drive: 2.5 Inch, SATA II, 8 MB Cache (WD20NPVT) (Old Model)

When I first ordered this drive I was wondering how they managed to fit two terabytes into a 2.5 inch drive. When it arrived I came to the realization that the drive is much thicker than a standard 2.5 inch drive. Almost twice as thick. Because of this there are a lot of laptops in which this drive isn't going to work. Never the less I managed to fit it in one of mine (though not the laptop for which I had intended it) and it works like a charm.I'm using a PC and I didn't want to have to reinstall windows and move all of my files over. So I also got a USB to SATA adapter ( C2G / Cables to Go 30504 USB 2.0 to IDE or Serial ATA Drive Adapter (Black) ). I downloaded Macrium Reflect (the free edition) and used it to clone my drive. After putting the new drive in the computer will boot up as though nothing was changed (perfect!). Once booted it is necessary to expand the partition to consume the rest of the drive. To do this go into Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management. If you can identify the partition for the drive you just installed you can right click on it and select "Extend Partition" to have Windows assign the rest of the available space to your primary drive.

He exterior looked like someone cut it out with a knife or saw not something molded. A computer tech said maybe it was made during the floods in Thailand time and they were pressured to deliver. It just looked like a rejected unit. It is large but did fit in my MacBook 13 2010 unit without mountings. I eventually returned the unit. I didn't want to take a chance on it.

This is a great product. It is listed as not being able to be used in laptops due to its thickness. Regular laptop drives are at most 9.4mm thick where as this one is about 15mm thick. SImple size calculations will tell you it will not fit. I purchased this drive for my playstation 4 for additional space. I noticed the 500GB hard drive of the PS4 ran out too quickly when you are forced to install every game, so i wanted the largest drive possible. WARNING: This drive will not fit in the cage of your PS4. i tested this and had to force the drive in in order to get it to connect. Even though it would connect once i put in a DVD the DVD started making all sorts of noises due to the plastic having expanded. so i removed the drive. My only option as of this point (i really wanted 2TB of space) was to remove the drive cage. I took a pair of wire cutters and cut out the drive cage of the PS4. WARNING: This will invalidate your warranty with Sony. However, after having removed the drive cage, i popped in the drive and closed the chassis. Chassis was still a little hard to close but you can get it to fit without breaking. The reasons a tight fitting chassis is good is to maintain the drive in place as there will no longer be a screw there. Was way to slow. Trying to use as a main drive was horrendous. I replaced a 512mb harddrive with this and noticed a huge drop in startup times and application load times.

I found myself running out of space on my MacBook Pro. I had a 512 SSD for my OS and a 1TB drive in a DVD HD Caddy. Between my iTunes files and a W7 install the 1TB was running out of space fast.This drive seemed to be what I needed. At the time of this writting it is the largest 2.5" hard drive within the budget of most people.If you have a MacBook Pro this HD will fit (in the unibody versions). It will NOT fit in a DVD HD caddy since this drive is too thick. It will only fit in your normal HD slot. If you are running two hard drives this won't be an issue. Simply move your OS hard drive to your DVD caddy and put this drive in your normal slot. When I did this no additional maintenance was needed. I also did not notice any real impact on speed from having my SSD in the DVD caddy.The speed of this drive is nothing to write home about. It does suck up less power than a faster non-ssd drive. After a month of abuse I haven't run into any issues with the drive.Overall if you really need a big bump in internal storage for you laptop this could fit the bill. For the price you really can't beat it.

I've been using these since Sept. 2012 and they do what they are supposed to.They are 15.0mm thick and made for use in specialized drive racks. They can also be fitted in a desktop computer's 3.5 inch bay or 5.25 inch bay using adapter brackets, or better yet, the aforementioned specialized racks.They won't fit in the average notebook computer's hard drive bay (which is usually a 9.5mm height bay), and they definitely won't fit in an Ultrabook computer's bay.I'm using them in desktop computers. I use Enhance Technology Model Q14SS and Model X14 'Quadrapack' racks to get 4 drives into a single 5.25in bay.That's 8GB of drive capacity in a single 5.25 bay! Very high density!I've been doing this with 1.5TB and 2.0TB drives for about 2 years now, in 3 desktop computers. They have been very reliable, cool, and quiet.I often swap the built in fans on the Quadrapack racks for slower running and quieter fans. As long as you don't run 10K or 15K RPM drives, this works fine.The 2.0TB drives run at 5K RPM, so they are perfect for this application.-

2TB in einer 2,5"-Festplatte - für mich ideal um meinen kleinen Small-Business-Server zusätzlich zur normalen Sicherung ab und zu zu spiegeln und für den Brandfall (o. ä.) in einem anderen Haushalt zu platzieren.Was beim Datum meines Kaufs nicht bekannt war, dass diese Platte übermaß hat - ein kleines "Platzwunder" eben. Das ist dann der Moment, wo man all die Händler im Marketplace verflucht, wiel kein Maß des Gehäuses angegeben ist - und wenn, dann meistens das außenmaß. Also: Augen auf beim Kauf!Aber es geht weiter - für alle, die diese Platte einfach gerne zur Seite legen würden um sie z.B. in einem Mount-Adapter (z.B. von Anker) irgendwann wieder anzuschließen: auch Archivierungshilfen für die Festplatten sind alle zu schmal. Damit meine ich kleine Plastikhüllen/Boxen, in die man die Festplatte legen kann um vor Staub zu schützen.Technisch in meinen Augen Einwandfrei, auch wenn ich keine Schreib/Lesetests gemacht habe. Einziges manko eben die Höhe von 15mm.

Ces disques 2,5" sont une capacité intéressante (2To) ils me servent dans un ancien NAS qui ne pouvait supporter des disques de 3,5" suppérieurs à 500Go à cause de leur consommation. En adaptant les fixations des disques sur les kadies, je peux utiliser ces disques ci qui sont 4 plus large en capacité, et qui consomment 4 fois moins et qui, par conséquent ne chauffent pas, ce qui allonge leur durée de vie. J'ai maintenant 2 NAS de 5,6To en Raid5 au lieu de 1,2To en Raid5. C'est amplement suffisant pour faire des sauvegardes. A conseiller donc à ceux qui sont dans mon cas.

Die Festplatte ist mit ihren 5900 Umdrehungen sicher nicht die schnellste Festplatte hat aber sehr viel Speicherplatz für eine 2,5 Zoll Festplatte.Aber ACHTUNG die Festplatte hat keine Standardhöhe sondern ist ein ganzes Stück höher als normale 2,5 Zoll Festplatten und somit nicht für Externe Gehäuse geeignet.Wer die Festplatte aber wie ich in einem Mini-ITX Gehäuse unterbringen möchte um seine Speichermenge zu erhöhen, dem kann ich die Festplatte nur empfehlen.Jedoch glaube ich nicht das es so gut wäre diese Festplatte als Bootfestplatte zu benutzten. Da würde ich eher zu einer 128GB SSD greifen die sind deutlich schneller. Die 128GB Platte reichen auf jedenfall aus und sind zum großteil für wenig Geld schon zu haben.

Aufgrund der Bauhöhe von 15mm habe ich lange gezögert, bevor ich den Einbau der 2TB Platte in ein MacBook Pro (Mid 2009) einfach ausprobierte.Und siehe da: es funktioniert. Sie wird einwandfrei erkannt. Allerdings werden mir nur 5.200 statt 5.900 U/min angezeigt.Der Einbau ist nicht perfekt, d.h. eine Befestigung der Platte an den dafür vorgesehenen Schrauben war nicht möglich, dafür ist sie dann doch zu hoch.Aber eine Fixierung der Platte mit Füllmaterial (gefaltetes Papier) an den Seiten hat zur Lösung geführt. Die Platte ist sicher verbaut und funktioniert zuverlässig.In Verbindung mit einer System-SSD ist sie eine ideale Ergänzung und erspart so das Mitführen einer weiteren externen Platte. Ein Griff und alles ist dabei.Zur Platte an sich (seit ca. 4 Monaten auf diese Weise in Betrieb):Sie ist in der Tat nicht ganz leise, aber ich bin da vielleicht auch etwas SSD-verwöhnt. Dennoch ist sie meiner Ansicht nach leise genug und sehr vibrationsarm.Zuverlässig ist sie auch, auch wenn das Auslesen der Daten, wenn man sie grad mal parallel beansprucht, recht langsam ist, aber das ist der Bauweise und der geringen Drehzahl zu schulden.Alles in allem bin ich sehr zufrieden und kann die Platte als Datenarchiv nur weiterempfehlen.

Leider hat man beim Festplattenausfall nicht immer viel Zeit, sich den Ersatzarktikel ausführlich anzuschauen. Dann kauft man halt mal eine Festplatte, die als teuerer Datenspeicher herhalten kann, als Notebook Platte aber schon wegen der Bauhöhe nicht taugt (Produktion Okt 2012). Die wird hier für einen absoluten Toppreis verkauft und man lässt den Endkundenn die lange Lagerzeit voll bezahlen. Ein fairer Preis würde hier den Eindruck verbessern.
