Shockingly Disappointing
I recently had the misfortune of purchasing the Extech MN24-KIT Electrical Test Kit, and let me tell you, it was a shocking experience in more ways than one. I had high hopes for this product, but sadly, it failed to meet even the most basic expectations. In this thorough and detailed review, I'll share my honest and authentic personal experience with this kit, provide helpfulness tips (or rather, warning signs), and explain why everyone should think twice before investing in this electrifying disaster.Product Overview: The Extech MN24-KIT Electrical Test Kit promises to be a comprehensive solution for all your electrical testing needs. It claims to include essential tools like a digital multimeter, receptacle tester, and AC voltage detector. With its compact design and seemingly reliable brand reputation, it seemed like a no-brainer for anyone looking to tackle electrical projects or troubleshoot electrical issues. However, appearances can be deceiving, and this kit proved to be a real shocker.First Impressions: Upon receiving the Extech MN24-KIT, I was initially impressed by the sleek packaging and the apparent quality of the tools. The multimeter seemed sturdy, the receptacle tester looked professional, and the AC voltage detector had a nice ergonomic design. However, as they say, looks can be deceiving, and boy, was I in for a jolt!Performance Woes: The multimeter, which should be the centerpiece of any electrical test kit, was the first disappointment. Its readings were inconsistent and often inaccurate. It was as if the numbers were playing a game of hide-and-seek, causing frustration and wasted time. It was incredibly unhelpful and defeated the purpose of having a reliable tool in the first place. As for the receptacle tester, it was equally underwhelming. Instead of providing clear indications of wiring issues, it gave ambiguous results that left me scratching my head. The instructions were about as helpful as a rubber ducky in a power outage. It felt like the tool was designed to confuse rather than assist. Now, let's talk about the AC voltage detector, or as I like to call it, the "false alarm machine." This gadget was overly sensitive, constantly beeping and buzzing at the slightest hint of electricity. It was like having a hyperactive pet that barks at every passing car. It was more of an annoyance than a helpful tool. The false positives were so frequent that I started questioning if it was testing for electricity or simply mocking me with its relentless noise.Durability (or Lack Thereof): When it comes to electrical test kits, durability is paramount. Unfortunately, the Extech MN24-KIT fell short in this department as well. Within a week of regular use, the multimeter's dial became loose and started spinning like a malfunctioning carnival ride. The receptacle tester's buttons became sticky and unresponsive, turning every test into a sticky situation. And the AC voltage detector, well, it decided to give up on life altogether and stopped functioning entirely. It was a comedy of errors, but not the kind that makes you laugh.Customer Support: A Comedy Show in Itself: As if the product's flaws weren't enough, dealing with Extech's customer support was like attending a circus without a clown. When I reached out to address the issues I was facing, their response was slow and unhelpful. It felt like talking to a broken record that kept repeating the same scripted lines. The lack of empathy and willingness to resolve my concerns left me feeling like a character in a tragic comedy. Conclusion and Helpful Tips: In conclusion, the Extech MN24-KIT Electrical Test Kit was a shocking disappointment that failed to live up to even the most basic expectations. From inconsistent readings to ambiguous results and faulty tools, it was an overall circus of frustration. If you're in the market for an electrical test kit, I strongly advise looking elsewhere. Don't be fooled by the sleek packaging or the seemingly reliable brand. Save yourself the hassle, the frustration, and the potential electrical mishaps by investing in a more reputable and reliable product.Helpfulness Tips:1. Research extensively before purchasing an electrical test kit.2. Read customer reviews and take them seriously.3. Look for kits with reliable brand reputations and positive customer feedback.4. Check for features like accurate readings, clear indicators, and durable construction.5. Consider consulting professionals or seeking recommendations from experienced electricians.

A Very Complete Electrical Three-Pack
This set includes three useful devices, a multimeter, a non-contact voltage detector, and a receptacle tester. The receptacle tester is useful for finding non-grounded outlets which are all too common. Those are the ones where someone has replaced an existing two prong non-grounded outlet with one that looks grounded (having three prongs available). But, unknown to a subsequent user, only has the powered ones actually wired. Without the third ground prong wired, there is little or no protection when a power surge occurs. This can bring a premature end to an electronic device being powered at the outlet. We lost a PVR to this hidden problem a couple of years ago. This tester can alert you to such bad wiring and help you to avoid loses likes ours. The non-contact voltage detector makes detection of AC voltage simple using LEDs for indicators. At the press of a switch, it will add sound indication too. Checking AC voltage is always a little precarious when a direct connection is necessary. While care is always needed where AC power is present, a non-contact device makes it easier to do and more foolproof. My experience with the mulit-meter has shown it as accurate and easy to use. Since the meter is manual-ranging, the approximate voltage must be dialed in before it will return results. But, having a battery positions for both 1-1/2 and 9 volt batteries gives it some unique settings even most auto-ranging meters lack.I am impressed with the many features this three-set packs for such a reasonable price. I am very happy with this purchase and believe others will be too.

Perfect for a DIYer.
I have had this for a few years now and it has been great. I've used it to diagnose car trouble, home appliance issues and home electrical issues. It is well made, lightweight, easy to use and has been very handy to have. No issues in the years I've had it.

Great economical electrical test kit.
Got this kit at a great price. So far, everything works just like it should. I cannot complain at all.My daughter was having a problem with her dryer, and I was not available to trouble shoot it for her. But she borrowed the electrical pen voltage tester and followed my directions and was able to troubleshoot her dryer (faulty fuse) and repair it on her own. So already this set has paid for itself. It would have easily cost her $50 to take the dryer to a repair center. I paid just under $20 on Amazon for the whole kit and the fuse was just a couple of dollars.Note to users: The electrical pen testers are GREAT for quick troubleshooting. However, they can goof up once in a while (not referring strictly to this brand, but all brands in general) so if you're going to be working on a potentially LIVE electrical circuit, use a meter to verify whether or not there is voltage present. I've owned several different brands of these and once in a while they WILL give a false no-electricity present reading. But for fast diagnosis of whether there is electricity present, they are pretty reliable and can save you tons of time. But when you've narrowed a problem down to a point with one, and if you cannot unplug or otherwise kill the circuit, double check your findings with the meter!!The electrical pen testers are a MUST-HAVE in my toolbox. Apparently, they are a MUST-HAVE in everyone else' too because they keep stealing mine!!! lol.
