Superior coffee maker for its price point
This is definitely a "tweener" product - the kind of product that exists in most product categories somewhere between the elite products made for true (and affluent) connoisseurs, and budget versions aimed at people who are just not as interested, picky, or well-funded. On several parameters that matter when making coffee, it's significantly better than, say, a $30 coffee maker from Target, but it is not as good as a $300 coffee maker. It is exactly what it is supposed to be: a decent step up from the cheapo units, but not quite "high end".I am giving it 5 stars for being a really solid performer for its price. However, I do believe it is a 4 star coffee maker when price is not an object; but it is unfair to rate it on that basis. So, let's talk about the two things that are of prominent importance in deciding how good a coffee maker is: brew temperature, and the temperature of the coffee while sitting on the warmer.Brew temperature: Coffee, according to all people who really study this stuff or work in the coffee business, should be brewed between 195 and 205 degrees. Not many coffee makers - even ones much more expensive than the Savoy - achieve that. Super cheap coffee makers can be way lower, like 160 degrees. I tested this one at 188. 188 is acceptable; you'd need a discerning palate to tell the difference between 188 and 195. That said, the problem with lower temperature brews is that they fail to extract all the flavor and essence of the beans, and yeah, I guess there is a slight, slight sense I get that this machine does not pull out 100 % of the available flavor.Temperature of the coffee warmer (the plate at the bottom): In other words, what temperature is the coffee after it's been sitting on the warmer for an hour? Ideally, it would be super hot. Basically, anything over 165 degrees will be perceived as HOT. If you're like me, anything under 150 will be unsatisfying and below 145 or 140 will seem lukewarm and be sent right to the microwave. Sitting on the warmer, the coffee in this unit stays right around 180 degrees, which is very hot. And it will hold that temperature until it shuts off after two hours. So those are two things that are really important in a coffee maker. I give it a B on brewing temperature and an A on keeping the coffee hot. That makes it a tweener product in my opinion: much better than budget models, but not truly high end. Some other features and observations:- The auto shut off is 2 hours, which is the perfect amount of time. That said, for best flavor, it's best to get it out of the pot and into a decanter, rather than letting it sit on a hot plate and burn off over the next 2 hours.- The reservoir is large and it's almost impossible to splash water all over the place when loading it.- The filter area is huge and the #4 filters slide right in, with less fuss or mess than other coffee makers I've had. In addition, the gold strainer can be used in place of a paper coffee filter, which creates a bit more mess but results in a better tasting cup of coffee. I waver on using it - depends on how patient I feel that day. There is no doubt the coffee tastes better if you don't use paper filters, and having the built in metal filter is a nice feature. Note that if you don't use a paper filter, you'll end up with a little sludge in the bottom of your coffee cup - but I actually like seeing, smelling, and occasionally consuming the sludge.- The reservoir level indicator on the water tank is easy to view and makes it possible to see how things are proceeding from any angle- The clock is backlit- It uses # 4 cone filters, which I think produce a better cup of coffee than flat (basket) filters - it concentrates most of the grinds in a smaller area, which brings out the flavor better. It also requires less coffee grounds relative to basket filters, which is cheaper in the long run.- very simple, uncluttered control panel which really suits my tastes. None of the stupid programmable crap that no one uses anyway.- Good spout on the carafe - very little to no spillage when pouring coffee into a cup. Quite unusual in that respect. In sum, I would say this is an outstanding coffee machine FOR THE PRICE. If it brewed at 200 degrees it would be an outstanding machine at any price, but my understanding is that that requires more expensive internal guts that cannot be accommodated in a machine at this cost. Aside from that one detail, this unit gets a lot of things right. It's most definitely a worthy upgrade from machines that are only $10 to $20 less and lack many of its features and advantages.

Krups is our favorite coffee maker
Krups is our favorite coffee maker. We have had 4 o 5. Our last Krups began to leak so we had to order another one and a newer model than we have had since our last model is no longer available. This one came without a filter or its holder. We have to use a filter because of hard water. I contacted Krups and after I provided them with proof that I had purchased the coffee maker, they sent me a filter holder and a box of two filters. I give the company 5 stars but I give this transaction a 4 because of the filter missing. We used this coffee maker for about two weeks before the filter came. Now, our coffee tastes great again. What a difference the filter makes!

Superior coffee maker at any price
I have 2 coffee makers and found I was frustrated with the one that has a flat basket filter as I am the only one having coffee in my home on a typical day and only need to make 2 cups of coffee...so with the flat basket type filter I felt I was not getting enough of the coffee into my cup as i felt the flat basket made small portions too weak. The other coffee maker I had was an old Krups cone filter 10 cup coffee maker that I always preferred, so when shopping for a new coffee maker I only wanted one to look at a cone filter type. This proved to me more difficult than I thought shopping at Best Buy, Target, Bed, Bath & Beyond, etc. So I came to Amazon to search and read reviews. The two things that helped me decide were reviews about brew temperature and the temperature of the coffee while sitting on the warmer, which I had not truly thought about before. The reviews were strong. The price was right. It uses a cone filter. It is not too big or cumbersome. I don't have to hold the top on while pouring to keep from spilling coffee all over the place (big bonus!!!). I have used it now for several weeks and am 100% satisfied and happy with my purchase. Here are some bullets that I read from other reviews that I have confirmed and also persuaded me to purchase this coffee maker:*It will hold that temperature until it shuts off after two hours.. The auto shut off is 2 hours, which is the perfect amount of time.*The reservoir where you pour the water into is large and it's almost impossible to splash water all over the place when loading it.*The filter area is huge and the #4 filters slide right i*Option: Use the included gold strainer. It can be used in place of a paper coffee filter, which creates a bit more mess but results in a better tasting cup of coffee.*The reservoir level indicator on the water tank is easy to view and makes it possible to see how things are proceeding from any angle*The clock is back-lit*It uses # 4 cone filters, which I think produce a better cup of coffee than flat (basket) filters - it concentrates most of the grinds in a smaller area, which brings out the flavor better.*Very simple, uncluttered control panel.*Good spout on the carafe with very little to no spillage when pouring coffee into a cup.I do wish I could have gotten a different color, but other than that very happy with this coffee maker.

Poor finishing... Disappointing.
Edit: 3 years later and I haven't returned the machine, it is still working perfectly despites the things we have done to it (putting coffee in the water place, leaking water on the heating circle metal... many times) and using it heavily (2 to 4 times a day).I truly apologize for the bad review. I am switching from 2 stars to 5 stars. It might not be the most beautiful, but it makes the better coffees. And survived the pandemic. A true partner in our days!___________________________Original review:Front 'metal' display ia actually a poorly glued piece of plastic with a metalic-ish image. As for the pictures I put, this is no crushed metal you are seeing. It's actually a plastic with air bubbles on it's back. The digital display os ridiculously small. I'm still deciding if I'll test the machine on as I'm heavly considering in returning it tomorrow. You can't spend this amount of money to receive a badly finished cheapy item like this.

Great but loud
Good coffee maker, especially for the price it’s set at! The only thing I’ll take away is that it’s extremely loud!! Other than that, the coffee tastes great and the reuseable filter is great as well as the auto brew setting!

Stopped working after 3 months - can't get refund or replacement
Similar to other negative reviews out there, this coffee maker started evaporating most of the water that I put in to brew after only 2 months of use, and I regularly descaled it with vinegar as per the instrauctions. For example, I put in 10 cups of water to brew and after over an hour, it had only produced 4 cups of coffee. The water had all evaporated and the clock display became covered in steam. Then, after a couple weeks of this problem, it just stopped working altogether. It wouldn't heat up or brew any water. The Krups customer service team sent me a shipping label to send for repair and it worked for 2 weeks after repair. Then the exact same issues started happening again and now it doesn't work at all. Krups tells me they can't offer a refund or replacement as they don't sell to the public so it has to be sent for repair yet again. I don't think another repair is going to fix the problem if it's already been sent out once and the same problems came back after only 2 weeks before it stopped working again. Not at all worth it, DO NOT BUY

Makes great coffee!
I bought this machine to replace the stainless one which developed a leak. I received a full refund long after the one month return window. (Bought in Feb, returned in Oct.) So I am happy with this seller and both products. The new unit has a heating element and a glass carafe instead of a thermal carafe. Element switches off automatically after 2 hours. Of course you can manually turn it off whenever you're done. It produces hotter coffee than any thermal carafe I've used. And any energy savings from having a thermal flask go down the drain with the hot water necessary to preheat it. To say nothing of having to microwave the last cups.Overall, with or without a thermal carafe, the Krups brewing system produces better coffee than many more expensive models. I turn out to prefer coffee kept hot while it is brewing. And I like that my second cup is as hot and delicious as the first.NOTE: The carcass of this unit appears to be the same as the stainless model, with a different computer. It even has the little slots in which to insert the stainless panels. Fewer functions. No special cleaning cycle, for instance. But I do not find cleaning a coffee maker difficult without one. Doesn't come with a water filter, but it has the spot in the water reservoir for one. You can buy a Krups filter holder and filters as an add on. Has a permanent coffee filter. Takes No 4 paper filters.I recommend this model in particular and the Krups brand in general.
