Q: can you use a controller to hook up via thunderbolt. I bought this thinking I could use this as an external gpu for rendering but I dont know now?

This is a case for a intel compute element. Its not a external gpu case. I know you can hook up controllers to the usbs in front. It doesn’t have any thunderbolts unless you have a compute element.

Unfortunately, it will not support the nuc8i7beh or nuc8i5bek as they are motherboard base, the NC100 support NUC PCIe Board Form Factor

No. You also need an Intel NUC Ghost Canyon board.

Q: Will the nc100 handle the new intel nuc 11 extreme compute element (i9)?

For the cost of the nuc 11 and the power-hungryness of the GPU most enthusiasts would pair, this case is not worth it. it has a decent 650w PSU, but that would be pushed in a system like that. plus, the build quality on mine was so-so, not $200 worth.
