Q: I want it to be a little tight not too tight would sizing down be a bad idea?

I believe its one size fits all! Im 5’4 125lbs and its too big for me but I make it work!

This item is 1 size fits all. I don't think you can exchange it for another size. Maybe return and get the money back.

I can't say if this is 80s enough for you, but I love this romper and is festive to wear. I even gave 2 of them as gifts to close friends. I'm 5'3" 150 lbs and fits fine, and expect it would be equally fine for taller and thinner folks.
