This is exactly what you need
This controller is perfect, as long as I can keep it hidden from my ornery puppies. They come charging into the bedroom from outside. If I've forgotten to hide it, one of them, usually Virgil, will snatch it up. I will normally inspect their cages before closing them in for the night. Murphey usually has his own toys to keep him busy. Virgil, however, likes to snatch things and sits on them to hide them from me. I had paused my show and was busy with something else. Suddenly, my show resumed. I thought it was odd but not unusual. When I returned to the bedroom, the show was paused again. Then the volume went to the ceiling. I looked at Virgil, he paused with the clicker in his mouth realizing he was caught. So my clicker needs replaced once again.

Worked perfectly, I am happily surprised.
I lost a Fire Stick remote so I have had to use one from another Fire Stick (with no volume controls). I have been trying to find a replacement remote that works. This remote arrived wrapped in plastic, in a plastic bag, with its instructions. No box. Therefore, I was suspicious that it was a return, although it looks new.So, my expectations were low. I have tried other replacement remotes in the past and they wouldn't pair with the Fire Stick, so my expectations were even lower. However, I went into SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH DEVICES/AMAZON REMOTES on my Fire Stick, chose "add a new remote" and held down the HOME key until the LED flashed. It failed the first time but on the second try (I changed nothing) much to my shock, this remote paired with the Fire Stick. The fire stick told me that there was a software update available for the remote. I skipped that and tested the remote. It "kind of" worked but the volume control did nothing. So I went back and took the software update (this said "may take several minutes" but it actually took about 30 seconds - your internet may vary). After the update downloaded, the Fire Stick walked me through a series of steps to setup the remote. After the setup, the new remote powers the TV on and off, the volume buttons work, all other buttons work as they should, the voice control works, and when the TV is on a different input, pressing >> or pressing HOME a few times on the new remote switches back to the HDMI input of the Fire Stick. This has more features than my original remote. I'm actually shocked at how well this works.TLDR: After taking the software update, everything on this remote works PERFECTLY.

Began malfunctioning 4 months after purchase
UPDATE: I've had 3 replacements in the last 3 1/2 years. First each one got very sluggish; then serious issues began-difficulty exiting apps, e.g., the previous show continuing to play audio in the background while the next show started. Navigating from screen to screen took for...ever. In 6/2021, I bought a new fire stick with a new remote; that's when the problems began. This remote lasted 1 3/4 years with the problems slowly getting worse over time. I ordered a replacement 3/2023 and, at first, the Mute button didn't mute the sound. Then the remote failed completely. So, in 11/2024 I called customer service and they sent me a replacement. This one only worked for a month and suddenly failed, not a single button worked and nothing Cust. Serv. and I tried did any good. When CS said to deregister and re-register, I gave up. So now I'm using the FireTV app on my phone because I don't want the aggravation.ORIG REVIEW:The Remote Control (2nd GEN) L5B83H frequently doesn't respond to navigation buttons. At other times, when pressing the navigation control or when trying to tap in search criteria, it jumps 2 lines or places at a time. I purchased this in March 2023 and it started this behavior in July. A poor quality remote and now have to buy another because Amazon won't make any allowances for a defective product. BUYER BEWARE.

Had to use google assist in order to set up....
The instructions that come with this are a joke, it says steps 1-3, if they don't work, repeat steps 1-3, which, as you might deduce, puts you into a lather, rinse, repeat loop of endlessly following steps 1-3. There's nothing that says if it still doesn't work try ______ instead. My trouble was that the cat knocked a glass of tea over onto the remote, and I was in the other room when it happened and did not notice right away... Ergo, it was well and truly soaked by the time I found it. I was able to bust it apart and wash it and hit it with a hair dryer and get it to "kinda" work, but not well. In the process, I also damaged the front face of the remote quite considerably, which, with the silicone sleeve was not noticeable, so if it had restored it to functioning completely, I wouldn't have had to order a replacement remote.Since I had the original remote that "kinda" worked, I was able to get the NEW remote working by doing the following: (side note: both old and new remotes need batteries for this process, unless you're quick draw McGraw on switching out the batteries)Using ***OLD REMOTE***,Selecting the "settings" menu (the gear on the very right / top of your menu)Selecting "controllers & bluetooth devices"Selecting "amazon fire TV remotes"Selecting "add new remote"Using the select button on old remote to confirm adding new remoteUsing the ***NEW REMOTE***Press and hold the "home" button for 10 seconds until it begins to fast blink.release home button. This *should* pair the second remote to the original fire stick. Your mileage may vary. It took me about an hour to get mine set up, which included asking Dr. Google, and going to amazon help, so hopefully this will help you with yours as well...

Does the job well enough
You might need to try more than once to pair the remote. At first, I didn’t love that it was harder to open for battery installation, or the fact that the volume up down buttons are separate rather than one long rocker button, like the OEM remote. (Lost that in the house or was accidentally tossed out?) Anyway, I got over it. It’s a knockoff! I recommend getting a protective cover like the one in my photo.
