Melissa & Doug Fire Chief Role Play Costume Dress-Up Set (6 pcs)

I love the consistency in Melissa and Doug toys. Its hard to buy things online but when I see a company like this I just know that I will be happy with the product and they did not let me down this time.I bought this as a halloween costume for my son (who is three), which he wore this year and loved. But it also is now in his toy bin and when he is feeling heroic he will put it on.The things that I love about it:-although a tad big it fits my son fine at the age of three, but also can be worn for the next few years.-the helmet is adjustable on the inside to fit a ranges of head sizes- The personalized name tag is a cute addition and very fun and unique-it comes exactly as it looks like and the quality is great and sturdy- reflective tape made halloween fun and safe which was a really awesome feature to have-the mega horn makes noise and comes with batteries.Things I would change:- the megaphone and the fire extinguisher were a bit heavy on the velcro belt hooks and dangle, it made it impossible for my son to comfortably walk around with them all night and so they were abandoned before we left for the night-the fire extinguisher is non functional what so ever and is just plasticthis will be easy for me to resell in a heart beat and I am fine with the price with what I got. I already had the fire boots so it was easy to put warm clothing and black sweat pants and my son was looking great this year! anything that inspires imagination is perfect in my book!

I was extremely happy with this product. I bought it because my daughter wanted to be a fire fighter for Halloween, but all of the normal Halloween costumes had reviews that the material was thin... I figured they were just more like one-time-use items. This had other good reviews about quality, and I was not disappointed. It is made better since it is for year round dress up, not just one night. Plus it is made well because Melissa & Doug is a good brand.The hat is made of hard plastic (not the really thin plastic kind you get at a dollar store) and it is sizable, which is great for my small daughter. The jacket is thick and has real reflective material on it. The bullhorn requires a couple of batteries (not included) and makes noise (it does not amplify the voice though). The fire extinguisher is a nice size. The cap is removable, so my daughter wanted to put water in it and use it like a squirt bottle, but it doesn't do that, which is probably for the best :). It has a cute little badge and a place to write the child's name, which is fun.The size is good. My daughter is 4 and very small for her age, and she does "swim" in this, but it doesn't look extremely big on her. She will play with it after Halloween as a dress up outfit for a long time!

Product is well made and true to fit. Child loved it. Items are of good quality make. One of the better Fire Fighter hats made. Material for fire jacket was good and easy to remove stain from.

While many people will boast of Melissa and Doug's high quality toys, I often find their products very hit or miss. In my experience a lot of their toys are great conceptually, but fall short with sloppy, chipped paint jobs and/or lack of durability.That said, this costume is a clear winner for Melissa and Doug. The fabric quality and stitching for this fire chief outfit is top notch, and the added bullhorn and extinguisher are just the icing on top. This outfit isn't like anything you'd find at Party City (where costumes fall apart after wearing them just once). It's beautiful, bright, fun and a total bargain for $25. Pottery Barn Kids sells a similar outfit for three times this amount.My 3.5 year old will probably get a year or year and a half of fun out of this before he outgrows it, but I know I'll save it for his baby brother to enjoy someday too. The fire extinguisher and bullhorn aren't as sturdy as the jacket and hat, but they're in good shape so far after countless falls on hard floor.

Bought this for my son for Halloween 2012. He was 3yrs old and 35 inches tall at the time. It coat is well made, it's waterproof and is roomy enough to wear layers of clothes underneath. The sleeves were a little long for him at the time. The hat was cute but the plastic inside kept popping out of the holes. The plastic badge was a little fragile and cracked after about a week. The ID card is cute and fits into the front pocket. The bullhorn is one of his favorite things... it has sounds that are not too loud. My only suggestion would be to add velcro on the fire extinguisher and bullhorn so they stick to the coat. There are rings on the coat to hang them on, but they fall off easily. We hung a flashlight on one of the rings instead. Now my son is 4 yrs old, 40 inches and 34 lbs and the suit fits perfectly. He wore it with fireman boots from Target and got lots of compliments. He plans to wear it again this Halloween. Overall a good buy and worth the price!
