Simplehuman rocks
This is a very nice little step can. Perfect fit in my bathroom and looks really good. The coolest feature? Quiet close. Once you step off the pedal the lid closes slowly and silently. For some reason this feature isn't advertised on the amazon page so it was a nice surprise. The pedal is larger and wider than other cheap cans and feels sturdy. What I'm beginning to understand about simple human trash cans is that they are designed to be large enough to make use of the entire capacity of your liner. Other cheap cans I've used get full and once you take the liner out there is a lot more space that the liner could have held. Another surprise: It came with 10 of their simple human can liners (this one is code R) that fits the can perfectly. It is also designed to make use of plastic grocery bags with little handles on either side of the inside can that hold the bag loops in place. The fingerprint resistant finish is nice as well, it will be pretty hard for this can to look smudged and dirty. Here are a few minor cons: Your liner whether grocery bag or simple human liner will be visible. This isn't a big deal to me but slightly disappointing. The top of the inner can sits between the lid and the rest of the outside of the can. This is where the top of your liner or grocery bag goes around to hug the inner can. So, that bit of the liner will be visible. The inner can sitting on the rim has a purpose though, it is what the lid contacts when it closes so it is silent rather than clangy. Also, there isn't a hole or anything in the bottom of the can to let air escape when you put your liner in causing air pockets. This can easily be avoided if you lift part of the top of the liner as you space out the liner to fill up the interior of the can. Believe the reviews: Amazon's packaging of simple human cans is garbage. When I opened the box the can was sitting on its side with those airbags located on only one side, leaving the rest of it open to damage. Mine does have a very small dint in the corner of the lid but its not that noticeable. I got lucky, so, if you can, order from simple human direct as I've read they actually package it properly. I'm used to using grocery bags for my bathroom trashcan but now I'm leaning towards getting the simple human liners. For this can they are actual 'miniature' liners that fit the can just right. Thats a step up in quality over grocery bags that usually have holes in the bottom and are usually crinkly looking. Just like a regular sized liner it's got drawstrings which I feel is also better than tying the grocery bag loops together. You also (to my knowledge) won't find a liner this size at the store. They've even got a promotion going that gives you $5 off liners at their website if you register your product. So, for $7 I could get a 50 pack that would last me over a year (using one bag a week) and no longer have to hoard grocery bags in my pantry.

Great for cat litter, LID STAYS OPEN, works with shopping bags
YES, IT WORKS WITH SHOPPING BAGS. YES, THE LID STAYS OPEN ON ITS OWN. It took me a ridiculously long amount of time to try to find a garbage can for cat litter that had the following criteria: works with shopping bags, and the lid stays open while I use it. The answered questions here can't seem to decide (it works or it doesn't) so I finally bought this can hoping for a miracle. Writing this review solely for people like me who just want those two answers as clear as possible. - Works with shopping bags. Smaller ones can be tougher to stretch over the outside handles but it still works fine. Standard QFC, Walmart, etc bags all work 100% fine. Yes, you can see a bit of it on the outside, but if you're like me and are using this for cat litter, who cares? See pic for how it looks closed with a shopping bag. Also included a pic of the inside can (pulled out of the silver outer can) with a store bag attached. - The lid does stay open on its own. If you use the pedal it comes down slowly on its own, but all you have to do is tap it backwards a bit and it stays open. You can also very easily open the lid with your hand/it stays open. See pic for proof that it indeed does stay open on its own. - Someone in another review suggested getting a specific magnetic caddy to stick on the outside for a cat litter scoop. I couldn't find it available currently, and spent hours trying to find an alternate that would fit the size of my scoop. As it turns out it wasn't even necessary. The scoop fits comfortably inside the can. Obviously you wouldn't want to store it handle-side-down for cleanliness reasons, but since the existing litter is at the bottom of the bag, I see no reason to not do this (and the chore requires washing your hands after anyways, so...). It comfortably fits when the bag is maybe up to 1/3rd full. More than that? Still no big deal, the lid can be 'ajar' on top of the can poking up an inch and it still won't pop open on its own. I haven't had any issues with smell in that case either. NOTE: the attached image of the closed lid does have the cat scoop in there. tl;dr this is a really great can that was exactly what I needed for cat litter. Fits in a small space, looks way nicer than a random bucket, has a lid, the lid stays open, store bags work and have the attachment for the handles that keep it in place, the scoop fits inside. I have 3 cats/2 catboxes that I scoop daily - I replace the bag when it's around 2/3 full (lasting a few days). Feel free to ask questions, I found researching this to be very difficult due to there not being many about the cat litter use case + conflicting answers on things like the lid.

Brilliant Design, Quiet, & Stays Clean!
I LOVE this trashcan! It arrived quickly and in flawless condition ($39.99 with free Prime shipping). Although I was initially reluctant to pay this much for a small trashcan, I found it so useful and aesthetically pleasing that I bought a 2nd one. I'm using both of them for my bathrooms. The design is a brilliant space saver. The narrow, enlongated dimensions makes it ideal for powder rooms as it fits perfectly between the wall and toilet. I also like how it has a lid that automatically shuts as it's averted my dog from his former dumpster diving routine (I won't go into WHAT he looks for). Thanks to the internal component, the trash liner is designed to be concealed. This keeps it looking streamlined and classy. Furthermore, it keeps the liner secure in position... No sliding around or bunching! The step bar is one of the best features of this trashcan: Of course, this allows it to be used sans hands. Minimal handling is great for infection control and also helps keep the outside of the can clean. Additionally, the lid is virtually silent when it closes. The stainless steel finish is beautiful. It's NOT chrome... So there's no super shiny reflective mirror look. Rather, it has a modern, brushed nickel or satin steel look to it. Many companies advertise stainless steel products as "fingerprint resistant." I've discovered this term to have a broad range of definitions as there seems to be a huge discrepancy of what level of fingerprint residue is considered "resistant." Rest assured, SimpleHuman got it right! The surface of this can is TRULY fingerprint resistant... Almost to the point that I would call it fingerprint-proof. While there may be an occasional smudge, that usually only occurs if handled by very sweaty hands (we live in Phoenix so household members can get a little sweaty from time to time). Cleaning this trashcan is also easy. Surface debri can be wiped away quickly with a damp cloth (simply water- no chemicals necessary), and returned to its original gleam with a quick buffing. The way that the liner is designed to fit, which virtually eliminates the need to clean the internal space. The one thing I felt was missing: The presence of a built-in liner holder. I was a little disappointed that this doesn't have one. I also own the large SimpleHuman Stainless Steel Rectangular Step Trash Can, which contains a build-in liner pocket. This makes changing the bag SOOO much faster. Plus, it eliminates the need to store/hunt down the liners. Therefore, to the SimpleHuman Design Team: I would like to officially make the suggestion of incorporating a built-in liner pocket when you plan the next model.

Perfect size and oh so nice and simple
I never really liked trashcans with a step pedal before I discovered simplehuman. They never seemed to work right, either jerking up the lid or not opening it at all. With simplehuman, the lid opens smoothly each and every time. The amount of pressure I apply with my foot correlates how wide it opens, which is fantastic if I'm worried about odor escaping when I only have something small to toss away or if I have something larger to throw away. It's amazing how well it keeps odors contained inside the can and not escaping into the living area. It's the perfect size to fit between the toilet and vanity. It's very classy looking. It's designed for regular-sized grocery plastic shopping bags as liners so unlike simplehuman's larger versions, you don't need to pay for more expensive liners. I was worried the grocery bags would look tacky as liners (as they did in previous trash cans I've used) but they look no different than regular liners. They fit perfectly and you can barely see it when the lid's closed. In addition to the step peddle on the bottom, there's a discreet handle on the lid so it's easy to open without stepping on the pedal such as when you're sitting on the toilet.

Nice-looking, but the lid is lightweight
A nice looking small steel trashcan, much cheaper than the all-stainless models. I got this trashcan to try to contain the smell of used cat-litter. Turns out the lid closes tightly enough to serve that purpose (contain smells), but plastic lid is too lightweight to close all the way on its own-- it sits "almost" closed and needs tap on the top to actually close tightly. I inspected several of these trashcans at a local store, and found they all closed that same way (so it's not a problem with just mine). The lid also will not stay up unless your foot is on the pedal. Most foot-operated trashcans will "lock" in place, which would be useful during litter scooping. Disposable plastic grocery bags mostly fit as liners. The handle loops on the bags keep the bag from falling in, although the bags from Giant (Washington DC area chain) barely fit, and smaller bags from Safeway and Petsmart do not fit at all. Bags from Target (which are larger than the average grocery store bag) seem to fit better. It's a decent trashcan, although the lid could be better designed. The smaller capacity and rectangular shape don't lend themselves to kitchen usage, but for other places in the house this is nice-looking, relatively inexpensive, and disposable grocery bags provide cheap liners. Recommended.

Small, sturdy and soft close
Bought this for our bathroom, and have just ordered 2 more for our other 2 bathrooms. The rectangular shape and size of this tucks nicely alongside the toilet. It's smaller than I imagined, even knowing its measurements, but for a bathroom it's all we need. Half a star deduction because although it's perfectly sized to be used with plastic shopping bags, the insert is a little taller than the can. This means that when you fold a plastic bag liner over the top of the insert, it's visible even with the lid closed. I solved this by using a paper bag (smaller than a standard shopping bag) as an insert within the insert. (see customer images) I folded down the top of the paper bag so it's a couple of inches shorter than the insert. I line this paper insert with the plastic bag, then set this down into the plastic insert. This way, the plastic bag does not show. The plastic bag keeps this paper bag clean, so you can keep using the same paper bag and just discard the plastic bag. I love the soft close lid - - it gently closes itself without slamming. If you open the lid manually, or keep your foot on the pedal, it will stay open . . . if you use the foot pedal, it opens, then almost immediately begins to close. It stays open for just a second or so to give you enough time to drop your waste in. As a side note, we have a kitty litter box in our bathroom and this does not allow enough room for the litter box scooper. I solved this by purchasing this " Amco Stainless Steel Magnetic Pocket Organizer with Note Pad and Pen ". It magnetically sticks to the side of this trash can and is the perfect place to store the scooper. It looks like it was made for it.

This is is a great garbage can
This is is a great garbage can. I am a pretty frugal person and was extremely hesitant to spend this much on a simple bathroom trash can, but I am so glad that I did! First, it is much larger than my previous garbage and is great for fitting in bathroom boxes (e.g., tissue cubes, feminine hygiene boxes) which often don't fit in other smaller cans. The brushed nickel finish is beautiful and classically modern. It looks great and upscale. The "soft-close" is a nice feature - no annoying slamming sound. It is easy to close with windex, and even comes with liners. On that note, I cannot possibly fathom spending what these liners cost, so I leave the liner in for several weeks before changing it out (sorry if you think this is gross but it's mostly just tissues and what not). I highly recommend this garbage can if you are looking for something attractive and functional.

Perfect for the litter box
This trash can is the perfect companion for next to the litter box. Previously I would just grab a grocery bag every time I was going to scoop the box, but we recently added a second cat to the household and the result is me scooping too often and I'm running out of bags. The perfect solution seemed to be to get a trash can for next to the litter box so I can scoop it whenever I walk by, but without wasting bags. Cleaner box, happier owner, and happier cat. Size wise I think this trash can is perfect since it's designed for and perfectly fits grocery store bags. The trash can has a removable inner liner that has handles for holding the handles on the grocery store bag so that the bag stays and no concerns about if you're getting the litter in the bag or not. The can is also fairly compact, solid, and well balanced. I have it placed between the litter box and the wall, and have no concerns that the cats will knock it over. And lastly, the the can does a good job with odor control. The lid provides a pretty good seal keeping the smell of the contents to a very tolerable minimum. Overall I am very pleased, it fit my needs perfectly.

As bins go, it's very functional.
If I had another chance I'd buy the bigger model.

Great product that feels high quality
I got this trash can to replace an older round one for my bathroom. I wanted something with a lid, and a slim profile to fit in the relatively small space between the counter and toilet. This simplehuman trash can has been absolutely perfect for my needs. I regret not buying one sooner if anything. I was a bit worried it might arrive dinged or that the lid didn’t have slow-close (as was the case for other reviewers), but thankfully my unit works and looks perfect. I’ve been using it for the past 5 months or so and no issues with rust etc. Personally I don’t bother buying the bags - just empty the bin into a larger garbage bag when full. It holds a decent amount for one user. It’s a bit expensive but it’s exactly what I needed so no complaints in the end.

Poubelle 10 Litres
Parfaite pour notre cuisine, s’utilise très facilement. Attention, les sacs en taille 10L de marque distributeur ne s’adaptent pas sur cette poubelle, il faut donc prendre les sacs Simplehuman.
