does this work for intex easy set pool 8ft x 30 in

The pump is fine but the filter is too small. On our 10 ft pool 3 little kids can plug it up in a few hours. No problem, take out filter and clean it with a hose but a bigger filter would be much better. Keep a 2-3 filters on hand to get you thru a busy Sunday. You can easily see when the filter is plugging up because the flow diminishes.

will it support a 18×52 intex round pool?

No it will not. This pool pump is way to small ,to circulate the amount of water that needs to be filtered. You will need to get the pool pump filter that uses the # A - filters. Remember, you can wash the filters with a hard pressure setting on you garden hose nozzle. Hope this helps.

What is the recommended upgrade from this pump?

This is a 330 gallon pump. I believe Intex's next size up is the 1,000 gallon. It's about the same price. "Intex Krystal Clear Cartridge Filter Pump for Above Ground Pools, 1000 GPH Pump Flow Rate."

Will this work on a small inflatable pool with no ports to put the hoses into? Can you just drape the tubes over the edge of the pool?

Yes, just have to keep one hose weighed down to the bottom (inlet) and one near the service (outlet). But it is too expensive for what you get.
