Would not recommend for use with a Shimano freewheel. Will work, but too tight.
Review of this product is a bit tricky for the following reason. I bought this as it was recommended for use with the DNP Epoch freewheel, which I had also just bought. But I was also using it to remove my old Shimano freewheel, which I was led to believe that this tool was also compatible with. As I started to remove the Shimano unit, I saw that the spline pattern matched OK, but I could not insert the tool, as it was too tight by just a hair. I was able to insert it by tapping it in with a rubber mallet being careful not to use too much force, and then I was able to remove the freewheel. I also had to use a hammer to tap it back out of the Shimano freewheel, and it had scraped off some of the shiny (chrome?) plating off of the splines to reveal copper underneath (I was surprised that the body was copper not steel). It did however fit the Epoch freewheel a bit better (although snug), so I guess that this really isn't suited for use with Shimano, unless mine was a factory defect.Edit- I decided to see if this tool was subject to magnets since it looked like copper beneath the plating, and copper would not be a usual material for a socket tool. It turns out that this is attracted to magnets, so it cannot be pure copper, so maybe it is steel, and the copper was part of the plating. I really am not sure, but the plating scraped off when used.

It worked fine on removing the shimano freewheel
was concerned this would not work on removing my 14-28t shimano freewheel based on some reviewers. It worked fine on removing the shimano freewheel, and it worked fine on adding the new DNP 11-30t freewheel. I suggest you use a ratchet wrench and a 3 foot pipe. what i did was I carefully aligned the tool with the freewheel, then i lightly tapped the freewheel removal tool into the freewheel with a wrench, once in placed it was difficult to loosen so i took a 3 foot pipe, put pipe into the end of the ratchet wrench and it gave enough leverage to easily loosen the freewheel. I saved money doing this on my own as opposed to taking it to a bike shop. I'm a true DIY (Do it Yourself) you can do it too :)

Slightly over sized for Shimano freewheel
This worked well enough and seemed to be made of sufficiently strong material. I did have to remove the tool's plating with some emery paper because the fit was too tight in a Shimano freewheel. I tried tapping it in with a small hammer but it was obviously too tight and I was going to end up with a permanently joined freewheel and tool. A little tapping and a little sanding, rinse and repeat about 5 times and the tool went in far enough to use. It did fit easily and properly into the DNP freewheel I was changing to. The tool was probably perfect before the finish plating was done in manufacturing.

What I received looked used
I thought I was buying a new tool but the tool came with dings where the wrench is to be placed as if it was used or the molding that made it was bad. I haven't tried it yet but I think it will do the job for a DNP type of freewheel. My current freewheel remover FR-1 is not long enough so this will do the job better.

Easily torqued. Even using appropriate size deep socket.
Purchased this item to remove old mongoose cassette. Using a 1in deep socket on a break over bar, I tried to loosed it. This lead to the ends of the hex end bending. Perhaps this job would have been better off left to a LBS (Local Bike Shop). They have the tools and can afford to keep buying them.

Great tool that does the job
Does the job for all DNP freewheels, and I no longer need the Shimano tool since this one is waaay more universal with the deeper length and thinner wall. If I had to complain about it, I'd like attachable to racheting socket wrenches for an additional improvement.

Cheap garbage, but the only one available for many e-bikes.
Horrible quality, but you get what you pay for. Many folks buy this and cut it in half to remove the freewheel from an e-bike. Most wrenches will cause this to fold over on itself. Try using a pipe wrench to hold it together.

Fit perfect and did the job
We have a bike that the sprocket carriage broke. The carriage was covered under warranty, but not the labor. I took the wheel to a local bike shop, but they said they couldn't get carriage loose and they were afraid they would damage the wheel.I ordered the remover and once received, I tried it on the hub and it fit perfect. I found the socket I needed, along with a long wrench, put the wheel up against a wall and it came loose on the first try.
