Does indeed pass data
I'm not sure why people are claiming this tester is not capable of passing data, because it's working just fine for me. I plugged it into a TP-Link Omada PoE-powered switch I haven't used in a year or so and it powered up and was immediately detected by the Omada controller; I was even able to update the firmware. You need to make sure the switch on the back is set to "I" for In-line testing. This is a big improvement over my PoE Texas detector, which only has a few LEDs to tell you that PoE is present.

Great
Amazing POE tester. It passes data while testing while many others do not.

Works very well!

Does not pass layer 2 signaling for 802.3at
Many PoE devices require Layer 2 to come up and negotiate PoE. This unit a. Does not pass layer 2 signaling for 802.3at b. Does NOT correctly measure current and voltage because of the non boot due to L2 PRO: Can detect if switch port is 802.3bt Useful for distinguishing between 802.3at and 802.3bt ports without load

Looking for great inexpensive IP gear? TRENDnet
TRENDnet makes some great stuff.. and this POE tester is another example! I have consistently found TRENDnet to make great gear at a reasonable price!

Great Tester
The thickness is really not important and I think Amazon believes this is a clothing product.

DOES NOT PASS NETWORK TRAFFIC!
This seems like a decent tester, but it has a fatal flaw. It doesn't pass ethernet traffic so your devices won't fully boot up. What good is it to test the power draw of a device if you can't get the device to fully power on? I want to see how much power is used during bootup as well as during actual use. Unfortunately that is not possible with this meter. I have a tester from PoE Texas that works, but has a scrolling display that only displays one attribute at a time, so if the device doesn't have steady power draw, you might miss a peak power reading if the display is showing volts instead of amps at that time. The TRENDNet device lets you lock the display on a single item, like watts, which is great for observing power draw throughout bootup, BUT we tested three different IP phones and two different access points and none of them would connect properly with the TRENDNet tester in line. All worked with the PoE Texas tester connected. This is not an ad for PoE Texas, that device needs a better display, but at least it works.

Doesn't work as described.
I bought this for our company to test PoE wattage to our WAPs as we've been having connectivity problems. As described the device should power on and I should be able to see the device power consumption. The WAP will not even power up after testing this on 3 known working lines and devices. It will just give me a wattage of 4.3 watts and the WAP will just blink and never turn on. I called customer service and they said the device will power on if it has enough power. That's not the case, I used a PoE injector of 30 Watts and and the same thing 4.3 watts during the inline test. Waste of money and now I'm returning it.

Supports 802.3bt, great for testing PoE injectors and switches alike
This nifty little tester helped me confirm that I ended up buying non-compliant injectors... Supports testing the PoE supply directly (Volts/standards supported) and inline measurements (Volts/Amps/Watts). Also detects polarity. First picture shows a known working 802.3bt injector being tested, the second picture shows a faulty/fake one that it helped to weed out.

Works Great for troubleshooting POE
This was able to assist in troubleshooting a POE installation and testing new POE Injectors. Works with no fuss or muss.
