Spark Seeker is a Home Run!
This record is my first from Matisyahu. As a singer/songwriter, my background is in early British and American Punk, Post-Punk and New Wave/Electronic styles. I typically do not listen to Hip-Hop much, but I love Reggae. This record is a sensible blend between the two, but is actually more Alt-Pop in my opinion. As far as "authenticity" is concerned, yeah it's a bit bubble-gum at times ("Tel Aviv'n"). But let's face it. Electronica is cool. So what! The mix is interesting, the hooks infectious! The record is full of just plain old good songwriting. High points are "Sunshine", "Bal Shem Tov" and especially "Live Like a Warrior" which could easily be a modern anthem for Peace in Jerusalem and it's full restoration to the Jewish people. My personal favorite is "Breathe Easy", which is a gorgeous song. Impossible to get it out of my head! Great job!

Matisyahu is not to be missed!
While noting that Matisyahu and his music are WAY out of my comfort zone, I am falling in love with this gentle guy and his amazing, thoughtful, cerebral music. What a message, what depth, what mysticsm is experienced in the listening! Don't get caught up in the unequally matched rythmic sound and melodic hooks along with the excellent desire to dance so much that you might miss the power of the lyrics. Look, I'm an old guy. There is not much new I listen too, unless it at least hearkens back to the day. Nothing like that here. Matis is out of my box in every way, but he has won my heart, I'm on his team now. Long as he doesn't mind a late middle aged, overweight, bald-headed preacher somewhere in the pit. I'll be listening!

Different.... but good
I have been listening to Matisyahu for a while, i have all his albums and i have to say this one is very different It has way more of a pop hip hop feel rather than reggae. You can tell he didn't want to duplicate what he has previously done with youth and light. However that doesn't necessarily mean that it is not good. For the most part I enjoy the album. For me personally it was kinda nice to here something different from him, it was refreshing. I love his previous two cds and i am a huge fan of reggae but the new cd just has a new refreshing attitude in it and i like that. Not a huge fan of Shyne on the album but thats just me. I would say 8 of the songs are really good and the rest are just ok at best. However just because there is not a ton of reggae feel to the album doesnt mean that there is none. There are a few songs that have some in it and in some songs you do still get that old Matisyahu vibe.

Matisyahu VERY GOOD.
This album was very good. Even though lots of people dislike it. The new sound & new look put people off. We can only see the surface, & we only judge by what we see with our eyes, & hear with our ears the tunes. In the heart of his messages in the songs I still see that he is very much Jewish, he still loves G-d. That's the most important part. Regardless what anybody else says, I will always stay true as a supporter of Matisyahu. My assurance is Tel Aviv'n my favorite part at the end of the song. Where he proclaims the Shema. Thank you Matisyahu. I will teach my children how to love with all of their might, with all their soul heart & mind. =]

I Likee
I'm not educated enough in terms of genres and elements and so forth, but I will say that I am particular in my music selection; not everything appeals to me.I got into Matisyahu awhile back, more over the album "Light." I was buying songs one by one as I came across them, only to realize that I should have just purchased the whole album. And I'll admit that yes, I was very surprised by the influences in Spark Seeker, I am very pleased. I have been listening to it on a loop, and I must say I love it. It's great to know that Matisyahu is capable of progressing past his original style. It will ensure his music always stays fresh and new.

New Summer Fave!
...OK I'm pretty sure it'll be a fave even after summer, because it's a really nice album! A lot has changed about him from his facial hair to his band. But what has stayed is his soulful energy, enthusiasm, and beautiful messages. The music is infused with hip hop beats, pop (more than before I think), middle eastern, and of course reggae beats. "Summer Wind" is good example of this. "Sunshine (new version)," "Fire of Freedom," "I Believe In Love," "Live Like a Warrior," and "Shine on You" are great tunes. Lyrics are always uplifting :)

A true artist.
Matisyahu is an example of a dedicated artist trying always to learn and grow. Sometimes his followers may not understand and criticize these changes. But I believe that he is very sincere with himself and those who follow his career. I recommend this cd,It's refreshing to the soul. I know that we will hear a lot more from Matisyahu in the coming years as he continues to grow spiritually and musically.
