Plug and play
Works great. Even though the highlander was pre wired with factory trailer package it did not have a fuse in the fuse box from the factory

check for towing fuse under the hood!!
I installed this on my 2006 Highlander and it did not work. After doing some research I realized that under the hood in a fuse box there was a location for a 20 amp fuse for towing without a fuse in it. I put a fuse in it and it works. My guess is that the fuse is left out when you don't have the towing package. However the plug is still ready in case a towing package is installed. So check that you have the fuse.!!!

Plug and play for 04 Highlander
Super simple to install. If added a 20a fuse for the main fuse box ( on top of the fuse for the harness which included) would get it a 10/10

Verdict still out on the 2nd unit
Not sure what happened but first one lasted just over a year. The lights on my vehicle stopped working. Had to take to a mechanic and he spent a whole day troubleshooting electrical system. Only when he found the wiring harness (it was stored where it connected into the tail light wiring) did he find that the Curt trailer wiring system itself had a short in it. Decided to try again as it is easy to install and use.

Perfect for the '04 Highlander. Don't forget the factory fuse!
Worked perfectly. Easy to install once you can get the cargo tray out on the left side. I coiled and stowed the long trailer wire inside the left access door for the tail light bulbs instead of routing it according to the instructions. This long 4 pole flat wire simply exits under the tailgate when it's hooked up to the trailer.Don't forget to check for the fuse in the compartment under the hood as described in the instructions. I missed this and was puzzled why nothing was working until I re-read the instructions and installed a fuse in the factory slot. Then all was good!

It won't work without adding a fuse to the fuse box under the hood
The instruction seems adequate at a glance. It provides a stepwise guide. However, it fails to mention what to do with a red socket. I added a fuse there and seal it using the attached plastic cap. Also, it is mentioning that some car models will require 20 A fuse. Actually, it won't work without the fuse added to the fuse box under the hood. I had to figure out the particular place for the fuse by "try and error. It was a frustrating experience considering the fact that there are two fuse boxes: one in the cabin next to the steering wheel and another is under the hood.

Great installation instructions
While I was waiting for the receipt of the harness, I inquired at two Toyota dealers as to the location of the trailer wiring socket which in turn resulted in two different answers of which both proved to be wrong. Upon receipt of the harness, I was please to find that the installation instructions included step by step pictures which were excellent. The wiring connector was found exactly where shown in the pictures ( under the left rear storage bin). The only tool that is needed is a flat blade to pry off the latch pins which are in turn reused when reinstalling the panels. (In turn, I have to commend Toyota in designing an automobile for ease of maintenance access.) The whole installation took about 15 minutes and I am storing the wiring harness in the storage bid mentioned above which is covered by the carpeted panel. The only needed item is the 20 amp mini fuze which is pointed out in the insturctions as will be needed. The Highlander fuze box under the hood is well marked showing the towing fuze slot although it was empty. I temporarily used the ajoining 20 amp aux2 outlet fuze. The wiring harness box fits well and can be secured out of sight on a flat area with the provided double backed tape. I am very pleased with the product and the ease of installation. I would only suggest that Curt provide the needed 20 amp fuze. Overall another superior product from Curt. Lastly, U-Haul quoted $60 for an installed harness which could not possibly be better that this product.

Excellent product! No multiple connections and routing of wires ...
Excellent product! No multiple connections and routing of wires to be made. Just one connector to the factory harness and your pretty much done. It would've been nice if they also included the mini 20 amp fuse needed in the fuse box under the hood to route power to the connector. A 10 amp fuse is included for the in-line wiring at the connector. If Curt included the 20 amp mini fuse, this would've been a 5 star review from me for sure.
