EdgeStar IB450SSP - Ice Maker Ice Makers

Our Viking ice maker recently broke. We were thinking of purchasing another Viking when we ran across this unit. I thought I'd give it a try as I found favorable customer reviews. We love it! It is so much better than a Viking, makes tons of ice and is fairly quiet. For example when we would have people over for a party, the Viking never made enough ice so we would ask people to bring over ice. This ice maker literally makes ice within an hour or so. We never run out of ice.

The first unit arrived and we paid a plumber to install it to be sure everything was done correctly. One day later there was water running on floor and no ice, obviously. We called the supplier who told us we needed to return the machine IN THE SAME CARTON. now who keeps a 3x4x4 carton once installation is complete? No problem, says he, we can send a new unit and when it arrives, just put the first unit in the boxes and call me for a return authorization. Oh, by the way, that will be another $1000 charged to your credit card, but when we receive the returned unit, we will issue a full refund to your card within 2- 3 weeks. So the second unit arrived, the plumber showed up in a week and installed that one, and in checking out the problem from the first one, determined the problem was because both units were packed for shipping exactly the same way, which resulted in the power cord being mostly cut through exactly in the same place and way. We happened to have an electrician in the house doing another job , so he cut and reconnected the power cord and the unit presumably will now work fine. It does and it doesn't. We do have ice, but it definitely is not clear ice. The upshot is we are out about $300 for plumber and electrician, finally have grainy soft ice, but it is working! Caveat emptor!

If I could give this machine a negative score I would. We purchased this unit with the Edgestar Beverage Fridge (24" - 148 can storage) during our remodel in our dining room / bar. We even had custom cabinets built around the sizing of these units. Unfortunately I had to return the ice maker 3 times and ultimately requested a refund. The company was helpful and did resolve my issue, but the fact that I had 3 units in my home over the course of ~28 months goes to show the poor quality of the machine. The first two just kept freezing up and the third was VERY loud, which made us think we would have problems with that unit as well. Don't waste you time and money on this unit. On another note we replaced the ice maker with the Edgestar Wine cooler as we wanted something to still match/coordinate with the beverage unit we purchased. It arrive damaged! The company is trying to resolve this issue once again, but the quality of their products seem to be sub-par.

We do love the machine but for some reason it periodically shuts itself off and we have to manually turn it back on. My fear is if we are out of town when this happens the ice will melts and we will have water all over the floor which already happen but could ruin my wood floors. I wil. Have to contact manufacturer to find out what is the problem. We had it professionally installed.

Works well. This unit has the pump installed and pumps water to the drain. This seems to work great, until it turns off or you lose power. Water flows down the front onto the floor.This is poorly designed IMHO. You also can't take out the bin without making a dripping mess.I installed this on a wood floor and that was a mistake. I don't have a floor drain nearby.If power goes out there is not enough fluid storage space to contain the water and the bin has a non-sealed hole that will allow the entire contents to melt and flow onto the floor.If there was only a simple plug that fit the bin that was electrically operated - this issue would be solved. That is not the design. Push buttons are a bit wonky but work ok.Overall a rather disappointing purchase.

Product works great and looks great. Cast Aluminum scoop is a must though for breaking up the ice as it falls into the bin in sheets.

As so many others have mentioned, breaking up the cubes is a pain, but this is tolerable because the next upscale icemaker where this is not needed is almost twice the price.Also, my unit often hangs up when a new tray of ice is being harvested and falls on a previous sheet of harvested ice that's sticking up and doesn't completely slide off the bin slide. This signals that the bin is full, so ice stops harvesting. When three-quarters of the whole ice bin melts, then the last harvested ice tray finally falls of the slide and the unit starts to replenish its stock of ice. Meanwhile, you're low on ice reserves with only about a quarter bin full of ice.

We buy a LOT from Amazon for our business. I have never posted a negative review. In this case, I will. The machine is of low quality and cheaply constructed. We installed this in our new office break room. It worked for about a month, then simply stopped making ice. The refrigerant worked, but no water would run to make ice. When it did work, the ice was soft, and as the storage bin is not refrigerated, the ice did not last long.We had it removed and did a return request. We had to pack it up and ship it via fedex to the seller. they were and are rude. Clearly stated that they would not communicate with us at all during the repair process. Would not indicate how long they would have it. Would not answer any emails after the first communication. It has been over a month and we still have no ice machine.
