Shea Moisture S/m Hair Color Dark Brown, 1 Pound

This product is everything! It is officially my new hair color. The process of application is clearly explained and easy to follow. Everything you need is included in the box (unless you want to mix in a bowl). The product is amazing; great coverage of my grey (I'm 15% along my hairline); wonderful smell; my scalp - which burned and broke out with other 'gentle' products - didn't so much as itch after! I was stunned. I also felt the color was almost a brown black but maybe after my first wash it will lift a little? I'm not mad at it but it was a bit darker than I expected by the guides/illustration. Also, the product is not 100% organic as some say; only some of the ingredients are. And it's more than any other color system I know of.My only complaints are: 1) The illustrations, while beautiful, do not really give an accurate representation of color. There are great guides on the backs of the boxes but those aren't replicated on the website so for folks like me who don't have a store close by with this product in stock, you need to buy multiple colors so you can see the guide on the back. 2) I felt the little bottles of shampoo and conditioner were a poor design and next to impossible to squeeze - especially when your hands are wet - and I had a lot of difficulty getting the product out (had to get my husband to squeeze). Would prefer tubes or softer plastic for the little bottles. Overall, I will absolutely use this product again.

I was excited about using this product because I like the Shea Moisture line of hair care products (I use the Raw Shea Butter and Jamaican Black Castor Oil lines) and have had good results, so I expected nothing less than an excellent result from the Hair Color System. Boy, was I disappointed! I have A LOT of grey hair, which I am too vain to expose to the world, and the box guaranteed coverage of grey hair. Excellent, exactly what I needed, plus a bit of pizzazz. Well... The first color I tried was the Dark Auburn (it was the only color available in Target). I wasn't stoked about the color choice, but I figured I'd start with that and then move on to Dark Brown when I refreshed the color. When I first rinsed the color out, my hair was a dark red, which I was satisfied with - it looked nice. Unfortunately, it didn't stay that way. Despite the fact that the color is PERMANENT, it behaved like a rinse and quickly faded to a coppery orange color that distressed me. Not only that, but my greys made a rather hasty reappearance. I waited for five weeks (it was all I could manage) before trying a darker color, the Deep Chestnut Brown.Again, upon the first rinse, color was nice and dark, looked great, but quickly faded again ... to a reddish copper ... again! With my greys putting in a quick appearance ... again! I decided to try the Dark Brown; maybe that would finally do the trick. You guessed it: nice and dark upon the rinse, quickly faded to a reddish coppery color that I absolutely disliked. And, yet again, greys not covered at all. Greys and whites are difficult to color, I understand that, but this product promised to cover them up. I gave up and switched to a brand that does cover the greys and whites but, unfortunately, contains ammonia. I'm still searching for an ammonia-free hair color treatment that will actually cover up my greys and whites while giving me a fantastic shade of hair.On the plus side, the color treatment smells wonderful and did not damage my hair, although I made sure to do a protein treatment and deep condition immediately after rinsing out the color. Perhaps that contributed to the color not taking, but it was all very disappointing. I had such high hopes for this product.

I am more than overjoyed at how greattttttt this hair color system performs I am not one to experiment with color I leave it to the pros but my very dear friend gave it to me as a gift I actually tried it thought it was too dark but as it got dry I was sold the color that I always wanted to have my cosmetician was out because of surgery for a couple of months (this was my big chance to try) so I said to me myself and I lets do this directions are clear product is awesome and I wish I had known sooner it was exactly what was needed as I was recently affected by listeria bacterial infection in February almost died my hair fell out on the sides,top including eyebrows my back hair was as if a barber had cut it I was very very depressed because your hair is part of your God given glory and I so loved mine well this being all organic has me on the good road to recovery I have been wearing lots of wigs hats scarves today my cosmetician agreed to use this product she is very impresses with how my hair looks in the time I have been doing this product it now has the nappy feel of body body body and it has started to grow back thank you so much

In a new climate, my hair has naturally lightened, and I missed my old dark brown hair. I'm a white Hispanic woman, but I found this brand through black beauty blogs. I used this dye because I was looking for a cruelty-free brand of dye and I had used their other hair products before. I also wanted something not drying since I have dry hair. I've dyed my hair at home a few years ago and remember it being a smelly and messy process; not so with this brand sinc the dye was a cream that didn't spray everywhere when I moved the bottle around my head. Not only did the color turn out great, but the process was easy to follow, my hair is shiny and deep conditioned. The box comes with enough shampoo and conditioner for a few more washes as well as a finishing elixir that will last a while. Great deal!
