Crinkled interior pages
This is not a review of the contents but rather of the book's quality itself. I bought this new and it came in cellophane wrap. After opening it and reading through it, I felt before I saw them; these weird crinkles in the pages like water damage, but not water damage. And they continued through about a dozen or so of the interior pages. Obviously it's a printer's error and not a reflection on the authors, but I'm very disappointed in receiving a defective book like this, especially as it was new and I paid full price for it. I have the 'Battlestar Galatica Shipyards' companion book and there was no such issue with the pages. But on this book, the printer seriously needs to up their quality control.

Surface-skimming tome only of interest to completists
This is a very disappointing book for fans of both series. It's poorly designed, not showing the art at its best and often poorly chosen subjects for double-page spreads. There's little if anything in the design art that any fan hasn't seen before, and the section on the original series is particularly ill-served at 30 or so pages that only cover the Galactica, baseship and fighters. There is too much focus on the work of Ralph McQuarrie in this section when other people, in actuality, designed the ships of the series. At the same time, RMQ did paintings showcasing these designs, much as he did on Star Wars. Also, the book commits the schoolboy error of calling the original Viper a 'Mark 1' when no such identifier has been attributed to it in the lore of the original series.

Very interesting to see the development
You can see very nicely on the basis of various sketches and drawings where the development has begun and where it ends. There are no technical details like in other books but it is really about the artistic and optical development.
