Isolate It!: Sorbothane Vibration Isolation Washer 50 Duro (.45" ID - 1" OD - .19" Deep) - 12 Pack

I originally purchased this to use on my old car as the dashboard hurt the ride quality even after fitting new tires and suspension components. I decided to use these and fit it behind my dash where the giant bolts held the dash onto the frame. It did wonders! It eliminated 90% of my problems. I now find myself using it on my computer fans and hard drives. I will be buying more of these. Highly recommended.

Reduced vibration transfer by about two thirds to three quarters. Well worth doing.Washer: Sorbothane Part Number: 0510001-50Bushing: Sorbothane Part number : 0510005-30Fender Washer: 3/16 x 1.25 inch (you actually need a 1 inch diameter but this is what was in stock)Could only get a 30 duro bushing, there were no exact matching 50 duro, even on Isolate-It's website. These are the officially matching items.You need a separately purchased fender washer as the sorbothane material is so soft. The screw head would not hold the washer + bushing together, instead sinking into the material. The fender washers I purchased allowed clearance around the screw head/shaft.When the pipe vibrates, the pipe clamp conveys that movement to the fender washer + sorbothane washer + bushing, absorbing most of the vibration. Only a small amount of vibration makes it through to the ceiling joist.

Just installed with the counterpart bumpers but, have not powered up the fans to comment on isolation. I do recommend the use of fender washers with these very soft Sorbothane washers else, they will tear and you will not be able to get them to hold in place. They are expensive so, best to be careful during installation.

I know Sorbothane is a great vibration absorbtion material, and these washer-like items are no exception. They have a slightly tacky surface which is perfect for them to hold in place and it also came in handy on the bottom of my Apple-TV device, which was so light it was always getting turned sideways by the HDMI cable attached to it. 4 of these under the ATV and it stays put without any worry.I also have a laser printer stacked on top of a sub-woofer, and had experience rattling from the printer when the sub-woofer was active. Again, 4 of these feet resolved the issue. So nice to have a product work so well!I anticipate the surface stickiness to be a problem removing from some surfaces, but like self adhesive labels like price stickers, a little patience and heat from a hair dryer and they will peel off without any damage.

The Isolate It!: Sorbothane Vibration Isolation Washer 50 Duro (.45" ID - 1" OD - .19" Deep) is listed as a "frequently bought together" product with the QuietCool AFG PRO-3.0 Attic Gable Fan Model. Unfortunately these washers are a poor fit for the fan. The fan uses three small (ca. 1/8" diameter) screws located close together in each of four mounting flanges. Since the washer OD is 1" three washers will not fit since the screw holes are too close together. In addition, the id of the washer (i.e. the "donut hole") is ca. 1/2" in diameter while the diameter of the screw hole in the metal flange is about 1/8". This means that, even if you are able to cram a washer under each screw hole, as you tighten the screw the metal flange bulges through the large donut hole in the washer and contacts the mounting surface - therefore fan vibrations are not isolated from the mounting frame. The Sorbothane Vibration Isolation Washer looks like a good product but it doesn't work with the QuietCool AFG PRO-3.0 Attic Gable Fan.

There is not much trouble in recommending this product for vibration absorption. I have used it in numerous ways for audio equipment with good results almost every time. These washers provide a practical use for positioning around bolts that hold down a circuit board, absorbing outside vibration. They also can be used as feet for a component. The important thing here is to realize that they have a load rating of about 3 lbs. each. If the component is too heavy, then their ability decreases. If it is too light, they do not have enough weight on them to turn the vibration into heat, which is how they work in the first place. Read the manufacturers product information before deciding how and which product is proper for your application.

I unscrewed the two bolts holding the strap rods attaching my garage door opener to the ceiling -- about 1/4" was enough. I then slid these washers between the strap harness and the ceiling, lining them up one by one next to each other, and retightened the bolts. I went to the bedroom above the garage and hit the remote and my best guess is that these washers cut vibrations and noise by about 80%. Now I can come and go in the early morning without disturbing anyone sleeping upstairs!!!!
