Overall, Very Pleased with AcuRite Weather Station
Everything went pretty smoothly with the installation and setup of the AcuRite 01079M Pro Weather Station. The most difficult part was mounting the sensor. The instructions could be more detailed on the process of mounting it and given different scenarios because everyone's locale and setup is unique. I found more info online from owners that helped to plan my placement. Also, the mounting screws seemed insufficient to give confidence in the security of the sensor. But, once the sensor was placed, it communicated immediately with the inside display unit. I did connect the unit with my computer, and AcuRite should provide a longer USB cord to allow more flexibility in mounting the display. I used a USB extender cable to mount the display where I wanted. The display is bright and very easy to read. I love the bold simplicity in the display. It makes it easily understandable without an overkill of information. The PC Connect set up easily, and I connected my unit to Weather Underground. There is some hit or miss reliability issues with the software to keep it connected to Weather Underground, but it works relatively well. I'm very happy with the unit and would definitely recommend it.

Great beginner weather station works as it should and no problems. This unit is easy to set up and instructions are complete wish I had gotten the wireless version as far as sending data to network.

Works, but low-end
Just ok, I would rate this as just a mass-market consumer grade station, not up to the task for weather enthusiasts.Pros:It's been running for 7 months with no major issues. It's easy to set up and get talking to the display. The battery life is good, I use eneloops (I can get away with it because I'm in a warm climate) and it always tells me the batteries are low, but it runs for months at a time without changing them. The display is nice looking, but... (see cons below)Writes to a CSV file if you connect to a PC via USB so you can play with the data, but (see cons below)Cons:Calibrating the rain gauge takes many hours, they should have figured out how to do this at the factory. The fan is in the sensor unit is noisy. Mine is mounted 30' above ground and I can hear it from another 40' away.As with most wireless stations, the wind speed and direction are SLOW to update - every 18 seconds. Hardly "real time" display. The display backlight can't be turned off and is *extremely* bright at night, even at the lowest setting. It has an "auto-dim" feature, but it just dims it slightly at 7pm, there's no ambient light sensor. It only writes to the CSV file very 12 minutes even though it gets data from the sensors every 18 seconds. Also, the driver that receives the data pops up on the screen whenever I plug in any other USB device, turn on my printer, connect my external drive, etc.As other reviews have mentioned, the indoor temperature is high by about 5 degrees. The worst thing, and what prompted me to write this review, is the barometric pressure sensor. The resolution is TERRIBLE. I went to their website to find the specification, but they don't publish it, and I'm not surprised in the least, they should be embarrassed. A graph (see pic) of yesterday's pressure shows a range of 29.3232 and 29.4412, with only 5 data points between high and low. So what should be a smooth graph showing pressure trends looks more like jagged steps and does not inspire confidence in it's accuracy and usefulness. Finally, while the all-in-one unit is convenient, that means the temperature and rain gauge are in the same enclosure, making it impossible to warm the rain gauge in climates where the temperature falls below freezing. Not a problem here, aloha, but I've persuaded friends and family on the mainland to avoid it because it won't work well in the winter. Conclusion:It's ok for now, but I intend to replace it in the near future and just give this away to somebody that isn't picky about the accuracy, or the lack thereof.

Device was damaged and support non-existent. Not at all sturdy.
After reading the reviews this weather station was highly anticipated. When it arrived the package looked like it had gone through WWII but the weather station inside appeared to be OK. I then opened the box with the weather display (a separate box) and saw it was just flopping around and had no padding. The clear plastic border was broken off the display at the corner. The AC plug didn't fit right either but the screen and mount appeared to be intact so I proceeded with the set up.When the display was plugged in it appeared to be ready to receive data from the station and the indoor temperature and humidity were displayed.Whether they are accurate or not was not my concern at the moment. I spent some time and money for the mount and deliberated where I was to set up the station. I finally found the right spot and put a post in the ground and mounted the station in my back yard. Once I had the station set up according to the instructions, which were poorly written in my opinion, it was ready to go. After attempting the first synchronization, it didn't work. The directions state there are three different wireless settings A, B, and C so I reset them to A, then to B and finally to C and none of them would give me the outdoor data. I then removed the station from the mount and brought it indoors and repeated the process as prescribed by the Acurite website troubleshooting guide. I put both devices within a foot of each other and repeated the synchronization process three more times for each setting. The indoor data and barometer readings were there but there was nothing from the sensor. If this device can't handle some rough treatment in the mail I fail to see how it would be able to put up with any rigorous weather conditions. If I had it to do over again I wouldn't buy this piece of junk. It's just that simple and was a big waste of my time and efforts. Now I have to pay for a better and intact box for the return.

Very clear display. has been working great
This is a great unit. the display is fantastic. I replaced an older unit with this one and it has been quite a joy to watch the weather on the display.

I don't like it BUT the reason is because the 01079 is $163.83 which would require you to leave a computer attached to the base unit continuously. If you purchase the 01057RM for $149.99, you will get the Smart-hub along with everything the 01079 has and you won't need to leave a computer attached to it continuously. If you are using this at a remote location, it saves you a computer and $91.56.
