Nice but too small
I'm giving it 5 stars because it's really nice and good quality. I am returning it though because it's just a little bit too small for my needs. I do suggest not closing the lid all the way while cooking unless wearing heatproof gloves because you do have to squeeze it a bit to release it which could be dangerous or difficult if handling while hot.

Versatile container
Well made box. Lid fits nice and snug, but not waterproof. Just gently squeeze the box in the middle and the lid comes off smoothly. Handle allows box to be used for serving food or liquid, but the edges are fairly fine. It should serve well in organizing special bits of kit that might get damaged in a bag or soft sided pouch. I think it's a pretty neat little container, but more than one might be noisy in the pack.

Small, rectangular box with lid and handle
Works good on a small stove. Itโs a bit difficult to get the lid off but after some use, it loosens up a tiny bit. Woulda gave 5 stars but getting the lid off is problematic.

A handle mount on the end opposite end would allow for one to use WIRE to suspend over a fire!
useful size for a day hike brew kit or as a survival kit container. If they would put a second handle mount (it comes off) at the end opposite the one currently on, one could use a WIRE to suspend the pot over a fire. Yes, some moron could just mount it as a bail and the boiling water tip over like someone rolling out of a hammock. BUT if used properly, looking down the wire would make a "square" with two ends higher and the two lower ends going through the handle slot. Overly complex but a nice option.

Really bad quality
It doesnโt open when it arrived. When I finally used it to boil water, the inside of the aluminum tin turned yellow and it canโt be cleaned off. It doesnโt heat evenly on a round heat source like a regular mess kit. Do yourself a favor and get a regular set of stainless steel mess kit that lasts for years.

VERY GOOD!
I wanted a good sized container to assemble a GOOD emergency tin and finally chose this one because of the light weight and the removable handle. I bought the "Stainless Steel Lunchbox Container: Solo Rectangle" but it was heavier and didn't have a handle. The issues with this one is the edges need to be finished with an emery cloth (extra fine sand paper) and a smaller issue is the aluminum is thin so if you're rough with it, it may take dents easily (Mine came in a bubble-pack envelope (not a BOX!) so there was a tiny dent in one corner). I looked at a third one but it wasn't cost effective (expensive!) and it didn't have a handle. AND if you need something to put this in so you can hang it on your belt, etc. I recommend the Maxpedition Janus Extension Pocket. PERFECT fit!!!

Nice
Just what I was looking for. I only wish the edges were smoother. You'll need to file them to prevent cuts from sharp edges. Otherwise, great product.

Nice for storage
I believe this is intended for individual meal cooking/consumption. I'm using it for condiment storage. This is the smallest of the two mess tins that Trangia sells, I also have the larger one that stores more but weighs more. Lids are very tight fitting and with the handles folded on top, I believe pretty much spill-proof. I've seen semi-rigid zipper cases for these that are similar to what's available for the Trangia cook kits, would keep them from getting all dented up when being hauled around. There's not a lot of similar items to these on the surplus market. Kind of expensive, but you are getting new as opposed to surplus well-used.

Exactly what I expected. ๐๐
Itโs exactly what I expected. A very simple tin. I use it for my survival kit. Holds everything and I can cook and boil water with it.

Best outdoor rice cooker!
Trangia Mess Tin is must have for Japanese outdoor cooking fans to cook rice. It was my first one and I could make my first rice outside. So happy wit the result and the minimal lightweight tool!

Great mess tin
I have been using Trangia aluminium mess tin for years. They are so good I purchased another 2 of them. The pro/con is that the surface area is retangular. It helps that it has a lid to speed cooking, which could also be used to cook directly with some limitations. There is no carry handle for the lid. The surface is rather thin which is good for weight, but not great for cooking. They are a reasonable size to store things within them, but the lid doesn't lock. Many people use elastic bands. You can remove the handle for storage, or leave it attached.

Lightweight, practical
If you're a backpacker looking to reduce weight, this is a good compromise. The aluminium is very thin, but this is what brings down the weight. The lid fits very snug, so it is useful as a container to other items. During cooking I leave it on loose, so I can knock it off with a spoon when the water has boiled. Will hold about 300ml comfortably. I've fried sausage and egg in it without any issues, as long as you use enough oil and are happy holding the tin to remove it from the heat to avoid burning. The edges are sharp as others have mentioned, but rubbing that down with some sandpaper of a stiff scourer sorts that out easily. I use this with a "Trangia Triangle" and it's replaced my trangia mini.
